Gauge backlight test?

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to install my Autometer boost and A/F gauges. I wanted to know if there was any way I could test to see what color the backlight is on the boost gauge without installing it in the car. I bought it used so all I have is the hose kit and there are two wires coming out of the back, one white and one black. Does anyone know which wire gets hooked where? I assume one goes to the battery for a ground and one gets hooked into the interior light fuse. I know the bulb came with a green cover, but I want to know if there is a way to change it to red, either with a different cover or a different bulb. If anyone knows how to do any of this please throw me a bone.

wut i did was i used the cigarette ligher. stick the white/red cable in the dead center of the cigarette light and use the black wite to touch the top or wall of the lighter. Worked fine for me

Well I never thought of doing that, but it should work considering it's on the same system and the voltage should be similar. THANKS

By the way, does anyone have any idea about the color of this bulb or where I can get a cover for it so that it's red?

I went to radio shack a couple of years ago, and bought one of those universals transformer adaptors. You know, the ones that allow you to play a walk man or anything else with low voltage without a battery. It has a selector for 3, 4, 6, 9 and 12 volt. Well, I cut off the adaptor part, and stripped the wires. Now I can do all of my testing in the house or garage without blowing anything. They work good on all 12 volt car stuff, except amplifiers. They can't hold that amperage. Plus it's cheap.

i tested mine by using a 12V battery from a cordless drill. i tried using AA and AAA batteries but i guess they weren't strong enough.
