Well my cf hood decided to unlatch and smash my windshield. (I refuse to take responsibility for anything. LOL) I still have my original hood from before my last accident. It needs reshaping and repainting but is useable. What should I do? Fix the old hood or get a new cf hood? I have the insurance check already and I plan on making a decision by tomorrow.

TIA

If you didn't then I don't want to see another thread from anyone asking of they should get hood pins or not.

I know. It always happens and yet people still won't use hood pins.

Did you have hood pins?

No I did not have hood pins installed. That would have prevented this but the real culprit was an accident I had months prior that repositioned the latching mechanism. (hindsight, go figure.) That will be fixed before the next hood goes on. (BTW, thanks for voting in the poll.)

I was on the highway passing (on the left) someone. I don't like the hood-pin look but if I can't find an acceptable secondary latching apparatus I'll use them. I really just wanted opinions on the aesthetics of the stock vs. the cf hood.

Thanks

I voted for the CF hood becasue I like them alot.

I just wanted to make a point about hood pins becasue people are always saying "i don't use hood pins" and I just wanted to make a point that if you don't use hood pins it will happen eventually.

I am not goona start a debate about pins BUT.... I think id depends on the hood. I had a knock-off before and YES !!!!! it needed pins, the latch assy was weak and fit was sub par. Now on my VIS, I elected NOT to use them, these hoods are built right. The assy is in MY OPINION stronger than stock. And the fit is perfect. I have had it about a year now with NUMEROUS track passes at over 100 and it never even vibrated. BUT, if it does fly up, I can't say nobody told me so. But I will continue to run without, or until I see the latch assy getting weak or cracking. (which I inspect everytime I raise the hood)

Thanx for the space.

Thanks for the comments guys. I ordered the cf hood yesterday, VIS again ($430 shipped).

Mine was a VIS. I agree they are built right and have a great fit and finish. I won't trust my particular latch mechanism again so I'll probably use pins (thanks L2RTSiAWD & RST). BTW, I'm glad this didn't happen when I was doing 140+ mph (before anyone gets their panties in a bunch- I was sober/it was like 1 in the morning/dry weather/performance tires/seatbelt/ blah-blah-blah).

Peace

Well thats because you messed with the latch assy. Look guys, I have been driving the last 3 days with out a front bumper at normal highway speeds, if it was gonna come off it would have. You can not blame the hood in this case, he messed with the latch and it flew up, period.

Nobody asked you to B!tch at me for "messing with the latch". Get a life! What are you a VIS rep or something? I never said that it was the fault of the hood or its manufacture. I said I HAD AN ACCIDENT THAT PUT THE LATCH OUT OF POSITION. Read all the posts before you come at me with some ignorant stuff like that.

IMHO Carbon Fiber gives normal cars a high tech look or feel that ordinary everyday cars don't have. It is rare to see Carbon Fiber in everyday life......that is why I like it. Now.... if you see it on just about everybody car you see.....I guess you wouldn't like it like I do, but for me I NEVER EVER SEE IT in everyday life so I say:D

Carbon Fiber hood all the way 2003 and beyond.:dsm:

I am not whining nor b!tching, My hood is just fine. Just stating the facts phuckface. It was you not the hood nor the lack of hood pins. For all I care you can get a turd and cover your engine. Maybe it will match your projectors.

To set it straight I was not directing my comment to you in general. so kiss my @ss!

Have a nice night

Judging from your first message, this is exactly the kind of reply I would have expected from you. I never once blamed the hood, its quality or its fitment. As a matter of fact, I complemented those qualities.

"To set it straight I was not directing my comment to you in general. so kiss my @ss!"

Well for you your future reference the pronoun "You" pretty much makes everything personal, (i.e. "thats because you messed with the latch assy.").

"Just stating the facts phuckface."

Resorting to juvenile name calling.

"For all I care you can get a turd and cover your engine. Maybe it will match your projectors."

Grow up!! I'm not some teenager who gives more than a quickly passing thought about what you think about my car or what I do to it. If my projectors are the only thing you can attack me on then my life is pretty awesome!!

If you really want to continue this then send a PM. I don't want new members to get the idea that most of these threads deteriorate into petty bickering.
