i was reading Modified Mag today and it had a civic in there
the guy had fiberglass molded to the inside of his door and it was painted to match the rest of the car

it looked really good, does anyone know how hard this would be to do and how much it would cost?

It's a pita to mold custom parts like door panels. To have something like that custom made it'd probably be a couple hundred bucks. It takes time to lay fiberglass and wait for it to dry. If you learn the art of laying fiberglass you could make them yourself for about $15-30 a side (assuming you don't mess it up) and about a week's time. :)

my dad says he knows how to lay fiberglass...

i would love to make the whole interior door out of fiberglass, would that be possible? and make it bolt up to the stock locations and all

it would look much better painted...

I've been trying fiberglass work on my body kit. It's not fun and it's time consuming. If you can really get the hang of it though, it's tight and you'll save a lot of $$$.

Yes you can mold a whole door panel, you'll just want to put something in there to reinforce the door handle. If your dad can do it then go for it, if it gets messed up or you can't make it fit afterwards you'd probably only be out $10-15 and you could make another one. Remember to mold it and let it dry and test fit it before finish sanding-priming-painting cause there's no point in making a finished product that doesn't work. Good luck!

I'm working on a front bumper for my Honduh right now, so... Good luck to me too! :D

wow those are crazy looking. im not sure if i like them or not but i do like the mitsu logo and the guages.

You can just sand down the plastic parts of the doors and paint them. Otherwise you should be able to take the carpet/vinyl off of the other parts and lay fiberglass over them in order to paint those parts. Just take the door panel off and play around with it.

1.) Put a chunk of rigid urethane foam (Florist's foam, without the clay) on the inner door.

2.) Carve to desired shape.

3.) Glass and finish.

does the foam absorb the resin?

Those doors are $599 holy shit, definantly not worth it. Pull the plastic or vinyl off the door panel sand it down and paint it. Looks just like fiberglass, a friend of mine did it on his eclipse, looks clean

Just wondering about those panels pictured above....how would you close the door from the inside? I know with myself, I use the little handle/pocket in the stock panel (under the handle and next to the power lock button) to pull the door closed.. but that fiberglass panel has nothing to grab onto and pull it closed. The only thing I could think of is if the window was down and you grabbed it from the outside or you could pull it closed with the handle but I would be awfully afraid of breaking it that dinky little plastic thing.

Hhen how do you get the fiberglass to take the shape of the mold, do you still lay resin on the florist's foam?
