Now heres the thing i bought locking hood pins, for my hood, now that im looking at the whole thing it looks harder then i thought. Reason being is that if i bought the reg ones someone could still break and steal my hood. The locking ones seem to be my best choice but the mechanism looks like the two locking parts have to be totally head on to lock. Now if i mount the base on the rad support that would be straight up, But the mating part attached to the hood would be angled due to the curve of the hood. Anyone have any ideas or experience on how they installed them without going to crazy. I have to somehow make the hood part go straight down to mate up with the base. Or else the only other option i have is to get reg pins which ireally dont want to do. Thanx in advance

Yea, that's the problem with the 1G and 2G hoods. The angle of the hood is fairly large and the locking mechanism doesn't line up correctly. The only thing I've seen that "appears" to work is rather expensive... http://www.aerocatch.com/automotive-operating.html and they can only tolerate a +/- 5 degree difference. Maybe the hole could be "wobbled" out for a little bigger angle difference though.

Hood pins are really for keeping light weight hoods from flying up and back more than anything else. And most of the locking hood pins are not all that great at "foiling" a thief. The best thing for that is a garage.

And anyway, if someone wants your car bad enough they'll just catch you at a stop and stick a gun in your face.

I really like that aerocatch but I dont think id be up to making holes that big in my hood. Yeah I thought of angling the base pins as to match it up with the angle of the hood. Im just worried about them cracking the hood latch and taking the hood, not them stealing the car or jacking me. Just when i cant be around. I rather them break the hood trying to get it then them just breakign the latch and using new hood pins on their car, I dont know what im going to do.

sorry to bring this up

but TrboANTsi YOU are the only ones ive seen who successfully installed these locking hood pins. you never posted how you got it done.. please update your thread. now that the front of my car is in pieces i figure i try and finallly install the set I have..

here are pics of your engine bay and i could kind of see where you mounted the pins. it looks like the usual spot of those rubber bushings where everyone else puts them, BUT did you do like you mentioned earlier in this thread and angled them? they dont seem so in the picture..

We always "massage" the core support to get the angle needed for the hood latch's..

Easy way is to get a large bolt and nut with 2" or bigger flat washers. bolt it to the core support with the threaded end of the bolt up..
Get anything that can slip over the shaft and leverage that biotch to where it needs to be..
This useually demple's the very top of the core support, but if you use large enough flat washers. it leaves a clean flat surface for the latch pins to bolt to..
Getting the angles right tends to be a guess game.. And a few tweeks, but its strong and works well...

If your really anal, you can, epoxy fill the demple's and make it look straight again....

Yeah if you noticed the hole that the posts are in was widened and i used larger washers to keep it firm and then bent the posts for the angle i needed. i also widened the locking clasp the make easier to lock.

I installed Aerocatches on mine. I think it turned out fine, and they were easy to install with the included templates.

Another benefit of these is actually the size. They have a large surface area and thus would be much harder to tear out by a would-be thief. My hood is going nowhere unless someone is determined and has a little bit of time.
