Hey Guys I Just Bought Some 17's Konig Next Bronze W/chrome Or Silver Lip For My 1g ..just Have A Quick Question Should I Go With 225/45/17 Or 225/50/17 Or 215/45/17 Or 215/50/17. Im Going To Drop My Car About 1 1/2 Or 2 Inch.please Let Me Get Some Advice So I Know Im Going The Right Way.any Help Will Be Great!! =)

I'm running 215/50/17 on mine and I'm lowered almost 2 inches.

But then again, I have a 2G.

Let me get this straight. I thought XXX/XX/XX meant width of tire/height of sidewall/size of rim. Personally, I like going with the widest tire I can put on the rim with the smallest sidewall for comfort without compromising the rim. That's just my opinion. Please speak up if I have this wrong. I'd rather have the right information then spread disinformation.

BANE3d the most i would go would be 225/50/17, 225 for a width, anything larger then that i believe gives u cornering issues because the tire is overlapping the rim to much. Also having a 50 profile over a 40 or a 45 makes a huge difference in ride comfort. With a 40 profile tire you do not have much of a sidewall for the tire to flex when hitting bumps, so you will feel a lot more of the road then with a 50 profile tire.

225/45/17 with a 40 offset I think.
Stock height.

The 225s fit the fenders well, any wider and it would stick out with my offset. I would go with a 45 series tire, the 50 is going to be a tight fit.

If you are going with a 17" wheel and want a 225cm wide tire, you're going to need a 45 series sidewall. That will only put your circumferance 0.4% (or 0.2mph @ 60mph) off from stock while a 50 series would be 3.9% (2.4mph) off. If you want a 215cm wide tire, you want a 45 series as well, putting you 1.0% (0.6mph) off while a 50 series would put you 2.4% (1.4mph) off.

First set of numbers is width of the tire in centimeter. Second set of numbers is the aspect ratio. It is a percentage of the tire width. So if you have a 225/45/17, your sidewall height is 45% of 225, or 101.25. The third set of numbers is the diameter of the bead or the diameter of the wheel, both of which should be the same thing.

Would your car rub if you drop your car 2 - 2 1/2 inchs or better do you have pic of the side of the car near the quarter panel and wheel? and if is is possible guy could ya post come pic up with cars that drop LOW with 17's and using 225/45/17 with 40 offset?

Guys sorry to Bump in. but i have same Question and was looking for input. I have a 2g awd dropeed about 1.5" all around and I planun running either

215 / 50 / 17 or 225 / 50 / 17

However I bam not educated enough in this field to make a good deciesion and would appreciate anyones input and recommendations.

STECars i was set on getting 215/50/17's then i want 225/50/17's now i am getting 225/45/17. The 215/50/17's have a sidewall of 4.2 inches. The 225/50/17 have a sidewall of 4.4 inches. The 225/45/17's have a sidewall of 4 inches. The 225's are wider then the 215's and have a .2 inches less thick sidewall. A small sidewall will give u a terrible ride, u will feel every bump in the road. A wider tire will grap more of the road giving you better traction. So despite all of my rambling i think 225/45/17 is the way to go. 225/50/17 is only going to give you .2 inhes more sidewall which isnt necessary.
