Pearly Dash:

Hi all:
I have been working on the interior of my car...
I came across this pic, and wondered how in the world this
was able to get the dash so smooth, and pearlized!
I do not know how he was able to get the dash so smooth..
Our molded plastic has tons of Grooves in it, that gives it texture..
I am not sure if he primered it many times, sanded then painted, then clearcoated, or what happened..
Please lemm know you thoughts after viewing the pic..

ya just sand the texture out of the dash pieces - prime/paint/clear

To do that you will want to get a good high build primer that will stand the flex of the vinyl and give it a good coat, sand it and just keep repeating until it is as smoth as you want it. Then paint and clear coat it. One other thing I would recomend is if you paint all your interior, try to stay away from bright colors up close to the front window or there will always be a reflection. If you still want a bright color and can't stand the reflection try a very light tint to cut down the glare.

I wonder if I jacked my interior up now..
The following steps apply to the rest of the car, not the dash:
I cleaned, primered, painted with the import red from dupli color.
Then I put a thin layer of clear coat..
I like the idea of this pearlized look tho..
When I get home tonight, I will post a pic in this thread to show you what my door look like, and the rear.. Its VERY bright. I used BRIGHT blue for the accent portions...
Im afraid that it is all gonna chip off because I didnt sand, etc..

You will see it in the Jan. Issue of import tuner or sumptin.. The guy just sold it on Ebay for 28,000!!!!
No kidding!
I dont know how he got that much for it! its a non turbo model!
Anyway, it was supposed to b in the fast and furious 2, but the guy who owned the car, couldnt go to Florida for the shooting, due to the fact that he was in medical school.
Look for it in the Jan. issues of the mags.

you cant just use regular paint. you have to use real automotive paint with real clear coat and/or add some fiberglass to it

Not too hard, when the exterior of the car was painted the interior was all removed and same process was done. It now has no texture and is smooth as glass. It will NEVER crack and looks amazing ...I can wax it if I felt like it.
