I was thinking about using the VHS nightshade spray on my tails. I'm guessing the spray will work fine on the middle tail light part. I have a 90 GSX. with the middle strip that is painted to match the car, will the nightshade spray cover this fine. I just don't want my tail lights to look black and then have a gold, black strip of paint in the middle of the taillight. Thanks

It's meant for tinting translucent plastic to restrict light transmission. If you want to paint a panel, you'll do better with opaque paint meant for the job. Although Nite Shades will darken the panel, it will in no way resemble the tinted lenses. And, it'll look like crap trying to.

Thanks for the replies. I didnt think it would look normal, but that is why i asked. What type of paint would you suggest. Thanks

Which year was it that didn't have the stripe at all on the Talon or Laser? Won't do much for your center panel (unless you replace that too), but if you're blacking them out anyway, might as well take the center panel off (and lens if it has a plastic backplate, haven't taken mine off to look) and just hit the inside of the center lens with matte black paint from a spraycan. Can get the Barbecue Black stuff at Home Despot, should maintain the glossy sheen of the taillights, and reduce the red color by quite a bit to around the level the Nightshades will.

Make sure if you paint in with spray paint, don't buy the cheap stuff. The new Krylon for plastics has give me good results on certain projects. For prep, get a grey Scotch-brite, tape around it with some masking tape, scuff it up, wipe it with "wax and grease remover" and then a tack-rag. Then paint a nice light coat, another light coat, and then a good smooth medium thick coat. You can also sand it with 1000 to 1500 grit sandpaper. Make sure you wet it with soapy water if you do. You have to keep it well lubricated to not get scratches. If you're trying to tint them, just buy some clear-coat and mix it with black base-coat. That's what I did to my headlights. I think they came out well.
