I did some searching and found a little of the info I'm looking for but not the important stuff. So my question is this, did anyone useing Sylvania silverstars have to do any modding to the bulb harness connecion or their car's wiring harness to get the bulb to fit? The reason I ask is because I just got a set last night but their are these little plastic grooves in the wiring harness and on the bulb connection that don't line up. I looked at the other silverstars on the shelf at pepboys and they are all the same. So the bulbs will only go in until they hit those grooves and then they cannot be inserted any further. I'm thinking of taking a dremel tool and shaving off those grooves but want to check with all of you first... TIA!

Are they 9006 bulbs? If not, that's your problem. That's the low beam bulb type. If you got the 9005 kind, those are for the high beams. I'm guessing you got the wrong bulb type.
Check on that and let us know if that's your problem or not.
No, they are definately 9006. If you like, I can take a pic of the bulb houseing to show the plastic that is restricting me from inserting them into the harnesses. Also, the harness has the plastic lines as well. IT's almost as though they are designed to "guide" the bulb and harness for a snug fit. Anyways, anyone with any info please let me know... thanks again!
OK. Are you sure you took out the low beam sockets? They are pretty well buried in there, so did you take out the high beam ones instead? And no, you don't need to modify anything to use them.
I didn't have to alter anything to get my SilverStars in. I think you got the wrong bulbs.
Same here, I didnt have to do any mods at all. Plug and play. I really think that you have the high beam harness mixed up with the low beam. Look at the old bulbs that you took out and make sure that they are 9006 (9006 should be marked on them) and not 9005. You could have just made a simple mistake.
You have the wrong bulb, and it's the right way to do it. You gain maybe 10% more light output (with stock wattage) with no effect on glare to other vehicles. http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/More_light.htm
