Flame Thrower Exhaust...................

some of us do this w/o even trying. Don't wanna count the # of times people have told me I shoot flames when I shift.

just so you know. its not as easy as that site makes it seem.

That's what I thought. I've seen kits that are supposed to do this for $80+, so I doubted an alternative could be done this easily.

So you're telling me having fire shoot out of the back of your car wouldn't be the slightest bit neat? Like you pull up to the line to race this guy and a 20 foot flame hurls out of his exhaust pipes, and you don't think "HOLY $HIT!!!" and then re-consider the race? I'm betting something like this would turn more than a few heads. I'm not one for "rice" or pointless mods, but I think this would be cool...on ANY car. Hot rodders have been doing this for decades now and we all know how "ricey" they are.

Also, one thread is about WHERE to buy a kit. This one is about possibly constructing your own.:p

Sorry, F&F did not invent this. This has been done for decades prior to the release of F&F. Saying flames out of your exhaust pipes is rice because of this movie is about as valid as saying custom wheels are rice as well, being they were in the movie.

From what I've read, the only chance of the flame running back up into your exhaust is if your exhaust system has a leak in it somewhere, being that fire travels in the least resistant path possible. I have yet to actually see or hear of this happening though.

I doubt the flame ever actually touches your bumper, either. You have to remember it's shooting out with some force, and even if it did hit your bumper I believe it would have to burn for awhile before it did any damage. Usually, it is only ignited for a few brief seconds. I have been to a few hot rod/classic car shows and have seen a couple of these flame thrower systems. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe most of these show cars have in excess of $3000 paint jobs. I seriously doubt if there was a major chance of damage, these would be the exact guys who would avoid this sort of thing.

You also want to remember that most "hot rods" do not use kits like this. They acually burn a fuel/alcohol mix to cause the flames. At least from my own experience that is what I have seen. I have yet to see a car acually using this spark plug trick. But thats just what I've seen.

I wasn't referring to the "do-it-yourself" version. Sorry for the confusion. Yes, competition & very advanced kits do use fuel/alchohol, but the main purpose of those is to shoot out the really big boy flames. There are numerous kits for sale, though, that are offered on the web which are not as complicated and advanced as the competion-level ones mentioned. All of which rely on the same basic concept of a spark plug being ignited in the exhaust pipe.

god, I hate what FnF did to the community....

listen, if you do this, you will ruin your muffler. on a glass pack, you will destroy the muffler FAST. on any other kind, it will be destroyed, just not as fast. the richer you run your fuel, the bigger the flames, the faster you will destroy your muffler, and your rear bumper. I garuantee that you will destroy your rear bumper. you have no idea how dirty its gonna look....

if you want to shoot flames, GET A ROTORY!!! they shoot 10 footers with no problems.

oh jesus..... someone help

i actually did that to my 85 celica, and the flames aren't 20ft or 10ft they are only like 3, and it doesn't burn my bumper, and you will only have it on for like 3 seconds, you wont ride down the street with it on.

mod away my friend :thumb:

Like Johnny5 said...I am sorry buddy but shooting flames has been around since the dawn of the automobile age. F&F did NOT invent it. And I am also getting sick of people who have to relate that damn movie to every freaking mod that can be done to cars.

Exactly. I'm sick of people who think F&F was some kind of "revolution". Practically everything in that movie was a representation of things that have been taking place for decades now. The only thing the movie did was expose a larger portion of the general population to street racing.

my dad used to set up flame throwers for people back in the day. its not as easy as it looks. and yes, back then they didnt have bumpers like we do. they had chrome / metal / steel, anything they could find (at least around here they did) and they didnt have to worry about melting stuff. i wouldnt suggest putting flamers on an import. thats asking for probs...plus f&f was a movie. same as the matrix and blade. special effects go a long way. im not gonna dis the movie, i liked it and will definatly be there for the 2nd one, but we just need to keep in mind that its just a movie. flamers look cool in but its not practical, just like nos blowing a car 20 feet in the air. it looked cool but i dont think it would happen in real life. its just a #@%#@%#@%#@%ing movie!

Did you not read the entire rest of the thread which already discussed the "comparison" to F&F
