timing chain cover needed?

Is it required a timing chain cover be put on the car?

1. Our car has a timing-belt.
2. No it's necssasary but you have to be careful.

it is a VERY good idea to get one, the guy who owned my car didn't have one and when he launched it or something happened, the plug wires got kinda close and it cut away at the wire. not to good, so unless you don't mind spending $70 for wires everytime it starts to cut into, then don't worry about one, but it is well worth it to goto a junk yard and get one for $5.

Without it you just have to keep the cam gears and belt clean.

a friends car started on fire from a cut spark plug wire flapping around the engine bay sparking like crazy. So $70 for spark plug wires if your lucky .
I had my top cover off on my GST for 2 years and never had a problem though.

That sounds like a problem where the wires are running, not the upper timing belt cover. As long as you use the stock setup for the spark plug wires it shouldn't be a problem, because it keeps the wires away from the timing belt.

And $70 for wires seems rediculous to me
