Removing the ECLIPSE sign on the center tail-light piece.

Hi, i want to remove the word ECLIPSE on the center piece of the tail-light. of course its for a 2g. Isn't it just adhesive that is holding it there? I would use some kind of heat gun, but wont it melt the piece? what are some tehcniques you use to cleanly take it off? going for that clean look. thanks in advance.

Yup..just heat it up with a hair dryer..and it will come off like cake, twas what I did

I just used my finger nail to scaped them off. after that i just cleaned it with some orange clean stuff.

I just bought an Eclipse rear bumper (98) and tail-lights for the Talon. However, I'm going to remove the ECLIPSE lettering from the center section, paint it black, and buy silver lettering to write TALON on there (so it will look a bit more modern).

IMO the Talon tail lights look like 80's style

Heat it with a hairdryer and peel it off with your fingernails. Buy some of that Goof Off/Goo Gone stuff from your local K-Mart and wipe the excess adhesive off.

kool thanks guys, i thought using a hairdryver wold melt the center piece as well . so is there any ghetto way i can remove all the adhesive gunk without having to buy any extra products from the store? like something around the house? wd40? alcohol?

Use a little bit of gasoline mixed with water. Just be sure to clean it off when your done!

That mixture does wonders.

hhaha, thanks, ill see if i can part iwth the letters, but my dad and i vigorously work on this car, and he likes to keep everything so i dont know if he will want me getting rid of them

it's just a personal preference, so it's not shameful to remove it. I'm glad you like the eclipse on the center piece. But I think my car looks cleaner without any "mitsubishi", "gsx", or "eclipse" on the rear piece.
And, those are the easiest pieces to remove as well. no cost for material, etc. All I needed was about 20 min of my time.

haha that's funny... when my car was spoilerless, since the previous owner put a big aftermarket one on, i was thinking about putting OEM 3 piece spoiler, instead of turbo spoiler... just to trick some people on the roads... :laugh:

You could hairdry all the letters off and get some more adhesive and make it say SPEED across the back "instead" of ECLIPSE .

If you look at the word ECLIPSE you can see that there is S and P, 2 E's, and take the "C" and turn it 90* clockwise and cut a small portion of the "I" and make a "D" out of it. I know I posted this before.......but maybe it was before you became a member or something.

Uhhh maybe its a little early in the morning here but I don't get what your saying.

"I" don't have a VW "turbo" emblem from a beetle on my car. My panel still says "eclipse". Doesn't say GSX anymore but in Germany people don't even know what a Eclipse is anyway. They were only offered for 1 or 2 years here, either just 95 or just 96 I don't know for sure.

it's prolly my misunderstandings... i've seen a pic with the "turbo" on the painted center piece, and the license plate had "gsxtacy" on it. but if you're from germany, then you wouldn't have us license plate, so it's my bad. sorry about the confusion.

I think the the one I saw were from the vw new beetle or the porshe turbo... should check them out...
