Ok i want to remove my shift lever to cut it down and reweld it to make it shorter. how do i remove it? On my friends acura, you had to get underneath the car. is that the case with my eclipse? can i just remove the center console and shift boot and just unbolt it somehow?? thanks for any help.

what gen is ur car... i had da 1g.... all it is is take off the knob.... take out the center section slide the boot over the shifter lever ... there's like a cotter pin if i remember correctly and it just comes out... no sweat... 15 minutes tops... make sure u measure twice and cut once.... cut the middle out then weld the two pieces back together... our levers r tappered... knobs won't fit right if u just cut then rethread the top (which alot of people do in hondas.. that's y i mention) make sure it's a good weld!!!!!!!! don't want it breakin durin a hard shift

thanks for the info. my car is a 2gb. i realize that it is tapered, thats why im gonna cut it and reweld it. i guess ill just have to go out to the garage and investigate.

In a 2G, twist off your shift knob then take out your ashtray/cupholder section. It should just pop out. Underneath are two screws. Take those out. Then move both seats forward and unscrew the screws at the bottom of the center console. There will be one on each side. Then you can begin to lift out the console. Before you competely pull it off, make sure to disconnect the lights and electricity to the cigarette lighter and the ashtray. You'll be able to see the entire shifter. Have fun. Good luck and don't lose any screws.

i cut my shifter lowe, and i like it much better than stock. when i cut mine, i cut it about an inch above where it connect to the shifter. youll find that it is hollow. i bought some 3/8" stock bar i believe and welded it inside the hollow piece.

a short shifter doesnt actually shorten the length of the shifter, only the length of the throw correct? so a short shifter wouldnt accomplish what i want to do. i put a knob from a 3g on and the thing is so damn tall, i want to lower it a little.
