Deck lid idea

So I've been trying to come up with a DIY hatch deck lid idea to keep my subs and amp somewhat out of sight. I am pondering trying to make one out of some kind of metal mesh, I think it might end up looking pretty cool. It would be reasonably lightweight, and if the links (holes? whatever?) were small enough, it would probably be reasonably opaque. What do you think?
