I got tired of having a toolbox take up tons of the limited space in the hatch, not to mention the constant rattle trap that follows. So I figured out a way to keep the tools with me that I might need or use, while keeping them mostly out of the way and no more rattles. I'm still working on the interior layout I want for the tools so I only have a couple ratchets in there at the moment but here are some pics for you guys. This is only a sample box, the final version will likely be thin sheet stainless or fiberglass, haven't decided yet.

pretty cool, I had an amp rack back there at one time much the same way. Watch out for weight because the package shelf will keep dislodging itself from the little clips and the hatch itself will droop when open.

Those are the reasons for me taking the amp rack off.

yeah weight was a concern, so i load tested it...it holds 30lbs before it closes on its own and can support 25 lbs without any slow strut sag, the majority of the weight is supported by the aluminum crosspiece that pivots the deck. As far as the clips comming loose I already dealt with it...and brought the clips tighter around the pins..seems to have stopped it from floppign out for now. :thumb:

Dont the tools hit each other and create an annoying sound of metal on metal when you are driving down the road? Seems to me youd have a hard time from keeping all that from rattling.

If you know what tools are always going to be in there, then just make a cut out in the foam and the tools wont move.

nope, the box has 3 inch foam inside it that is being cut out for the tools, besically each one is seperated from the others by the foam...kind of a form fitted design. 0 rattles.

my question is how the hell do you even keep the pops in !!! mine fall out all the time and i dont have anything attached to the trunk lid
