Tail lights

I have a 1995 Eclipse GSX and im having an issue with the left rear tail light not working. I know the bulbs are good and there is power coming to them because when i turn on my lights both sets of lights in the rear illuminate. however if i brake, only the right brake light will illuminate whether or not the cars "night driving lights" are turned on or off. the turning signal acts the same way. when i activate my aftermarket alarm system the turning signal flashes but if i turn on my turning signal the bulb does not work. any ideas? i think that it has something to do with the alarm install, but the people that did the work on it say the alarm is fine and i have a short somewhere in my braking light system along with my turning signal system. has anybody had this problem on a car without an aftermarket alarm system?

I would first check to see if you have the correct bulbs in the correct locations. Next, I would check the contacts of the bulbs and the sockets for corrosion/poor conductivity. Your alarm activates the parking light (dimmer) filament portion of the bulb. The turn signal and brake use the brighter filament. From what you describe, it does sound like you have a short somewhere, but you should check those two items first.
