This isnt actually a current problem but it was on the laser I used too own. (1990, turbo same year as the eclipse I have now) I had a kenwood 50x4 head unit and kenwood speakers in the front/rear (Didnt replace the 2 small dash speakers) It sounded great but I could only turn it up to like 22 (goes to 35 on the headunit) before it would just start cutting out. It was like there wasnt enough power but it was only a simple headunit that was more than enough to power the 4 kenwoods I put in. I just dont want to run into this problem again with my eclipse. Ive wired several stereo systems and never had these kinds of problems before with my other cars. (2 240sx's and a ford taurus)
Before anyone asks it was not a cheapo headunit (400 bucks) and the speakers were the best ones made by kenwood at the time as far as 3 ways go.
My alternator was fine as well as the battery. The wiring was done correctly so I can only think it has something to do with the factory built in amplifier(s)? on the car.
So whats the deal? anything special I need to do next time I do this? Should I just remove the factory amplifier?
