I'm getting an O2 eliminator turbo back RNR Racing exhaust without a muffler. I don't really like the way the mufflers that they sell look. I need to pick out a muffler. I've pretty much decided on a mirror finish Magnaflow muffler. I think they are the best compromise between performance/looks/sound/price. Anyway, do you guys think it looks best to have the muffler completely under the car/flush with the end of the bumper or sticking out past the bumper a few inches. Anybody have a picture of their muffler from a side/diaganol view?

Thanks

No opinion on what you actually asked about, but I would advise against the magnaflow. For DSM's they really aren't that great.

What in particular is it that makes Magnaflow mufflers not that great for DSMs? A lot of reputable shops use them as part of their exhaust systems (extreme motorsports, extreme turbo and DSM, DSM motorsports).

You obviously don't know much about Magnaflow given that statement. Go tell Mr. Buschur Magnaflow is no good

Yea, obviously I don't....I just like to make things up and tell them to people for no freaking apparent reason. I am speaking from experience, I know 2 other fellow DSMers who both got the same magnaflow muffler about a year ago. There was little power gain. One decided to switch to the N1 as where the other stuck by the magnaflow. They guy who switched saw a noticable power gain. I'm not saying magnaflows suck or anything, I'm just saying there probably are better options.

MUFFLERS DON'T MAKE POWER! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

You cannot expect to slap on a muffler and get a huge power increase. This only partially happens with naturally aspirated engines because the muffler tends to be one of the big 3 places for restriction. On turbo cars, the TURBO will be the biggest restriction. Just swapping mufflers won't do crap if you don't open up the entire exhaust pipe from the turbo back (Hence the 'turbo-back' nomenclature at vendors).

Is there not anybody out there that has an opinion on the original question I asked? I didn't intend for this thread to get into a performance arguement. This is the non-performance/looks forum.

If your talking about the tip, I wouldn't have it sticking out anything past about an inch or it will look ghetto.

SetH, Like I said, Tell David Buschur he doesn't know what he's talking about. He uses Magnaflow on his exhaust systems and a lot depends on the type of Magnaflow you get. Straight through is straight through man, plain and simple. Were the 2 cars you were talking about exactly the same mod wise, exhaust wise etc? I doubt it.

i have a straight thru longbody magnaflow muffler and i LOVE it. my entire tip sticks out, but thats just because the muffler body is like 16" long and wouldnt entirely fit under the stock bumper cover.

i think it looks better to keep your muffler tucked under your car but that is just me its your car and you should really do what you want b/c you will be the one driving it.

If you have it sticking out from under the bumper, watch where you park it. I have seen many instances where people will walk by and stomp on the tip because it is sticking out. And that leaves the owner of the car to come out and see his entire exhaust sitting on the ground all bent up. I keep mine tucked under the bumper for that exact reason.
