I recently paid my friend to do some mods to my car, turbo timer install/boost gauge/etc.. i got my car back and the speedo and odo arent working. I called him and he laughed and told me he did it on purpose so miles wouldnt register, he cant come back to fix it for a month, i need to know how fast im going!! He told me its a harness or something that he simply unplugged? Does anyone know how to get it working again? Thanks!!! The tachometer works fine???

anyone?

In my dealing of working back there there is NO HARNESS. The whole instrument panel comes out and just plugs into a slot like thing. Maybe hes just covering up for messing up. Mine wouldnt register if it wasn't pushed in all the way into the slot behind it. Look at the pict below. It is from the faq at VFAQ.com, that Faq might help you.

On a sidenote,, I drove w/out any guages for about a month or two when I was totally stock. You get very good at knowing your speed though you better hope your not overheating or something.

So, He would had to take my whole dash apart to disconnect the speedo/odo? I cant beileve he woul do that? Is there anywhere under the hood that could have been discconnected that would cause the speedo/odo to not work?
thanks!!

take the needle off and put it back on and see if it works then. Mine quit working when I put my white faced gauges in so I had to guess how fast I was going and stuck the needle on that speed. I eventually got it right through trial and error.

Check the plugs, make sure you have a good connection. Check the fuses, possibly the main gauge fuse (i have no idea which one it is.. look around under the hood and under the dash). Worst case, you need a new speed sensor, which you can pick up at the dealer.

Man you guys are really giving him the runaround. Look on top of your transmission and you should notince a disconnected harness. That is the speedo drive inside your tranny. It spins along with the tranny gears and moves the speedo and odometer. If all your other guages weren't working then it might be your guage cluster but if it's just the speedo and odometer then it's the drive gear. We learned the hard way on my friend's car when we broke it cause we didn't pull it before we took the tranny out.

Yea, that makes sense!! Can you give me a little more info on where it is located? Is it easily reachable? I have automatic so im not sure if that matters...

THANKS!!!!

Well from looking at my manual the connector is right on top of the diff. So look there and I'll bet you'll find it.
