I just bought a 91 black AWD and its paint is pretty nice except for the drivers door has a long key mark. i was wondering about any products people have tried and worked well to minimize scratchs. thx

I also need to know this because I had some type of tar or something on my car door and had to take a dish scrubber to the door to get it off and now I have a big circluar scratch pattern.

Depending on how deep it is, you have a few options. I had a few shallow scratches on my bumper and I was able to make those disappear with a little bit of rubbing compound. For deeper scratches, however, I use touch up paint. Just fill the valley gradually with a thin layer of paint each time. Do this until your touch up paint fills up higher than the rest of the area. Let it dry until the next day and then wetsand it down using high grit sandpaper. Follow up on the area with polish and wax if the touch up paint is dull.

yea i stopped by pep boys the other day to see what they had for paint...i have touchup paint matched from mitsu that i got with the car but the brush is kind if big for key marks i have a little fine scratch on the roof that i needed a smaller brush for...pep boys has a lil mirco brush that should work im gonna try it out next time i clean my car if i dont forget ill let u guys kno how it worked...as for deep scratches i only filled in a few rock dings along the hood n bumper...just put a big dot in the hole and it settles in as it dries i didnt kno if u could but a nother coat on it to even it out..but im gonna also do that when i cleam my car...wish me luck

I don't know if I would try this on my car, I just got mine painted a couple of months ago and I got my roof chipped by a pretty big rock. I got some touch-up and I just have a blob covering it, it looks off but I don't know if I want to touch my paint with sandpaper.

correct me if im wrong but i think that wet sanding should only take off parts that are uneven...like leveling out a high spot...i hear it takes clear coat off which i need to do to my mirrors some time...but if u just got ur car painted and wanna fix this spot i would try it out just dont be sanding down a big spot around it or u can leave it as a big blob of hard paint thats how mine is now looks better then a white nick:thumb:
