Driver side open door sensor issues

Hey guys. I am having a problem with the sensor in my driver side door. Also let me say sorry, I am still waiting for my DSM shop manual to arrive in the mail or else I would have looked it up there. Well here is the issue, the open door sensor on the driver side door is bad or something. For example when set to come on when a door is open, the overhead light will not come on. However if the other door or trunk is opened it does come on. Also the light on the ignition does not light up if the driver door is open however it does if the passanger is. It is quite annoying at times. I was wondering if you guys by any chance had any ideas? Can I just change a sensor or something? Also instructions to do so or a link to instructions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Yank it out (1 screw, I believe), sand it off and oil it. All better.

What is it I am yanking off? The actual door? May I ask how would sanding and oiling the door make the open door sensor for the lights and what not come on? The door opens just fine.

No, on the bottom right corner of the door opening on the car, there is a little button with a ruber cover. Pull off the ruber, take out the philips screw holding on the button, it is a grounded switch that gives the circuit negative potential when the door is open for your interior lights which are always hot. Scrape away the rust and ream out the screw hole a lil to provide it with a better ground, then give her a lil WD-40.

mine has the same "problem" but i kinda like that the lights dont come on when i open my door.

I guess you'd like the alarm to not go off when someone else opens that door as well?

dont have an alarm....car only come out of the garage if im going to the track, show, or taking a cruise....dont use it to go to the mall or drive anywhere else

When you clean the switch, make sure the metal backing has a good contact with the body. Sand that section to make sure. I bet the ground is bad, moreso than the actual switch.
