Just Like my girls,my car NEEDS to be shavin'.I want to shave the middle molding from the side of my TSi, where do I start????? :talon:

if ya know how to shave somthing off a car.. ya shoudnt need to ask were to start. other wise id have it done if i was you.

I agree with dave on the fact that if your askiig us you probably shouldnt be doing it either but here you go.

1.) Remove exhisting molding

2.) take a hammer and as gently and precisely bang the center of the molding goove on the door to "cave" in and actually be bent in beyond the naturall curve of the door.

( THE IDEA HERE IS TO GET THE HARD LINE THAT IS ON THE TOP OF THE GROOVE TO ACTUALLY DEPRESS BELOW THE NATURAL CURVE OF THE SIDE OF THE CAR. IF YOU DONT DO THIS YOU WILL BE LEFT WITH A "BODY LINE" WHERE THE MOLDING USE TO BE. THAT LINE IS THE TOP OF THE GROOVE SHOWING THROUGH!)

3.) Either Weld a metal plate in the goove and get it as close to flush as possible. OR start filling the groove with puddy. MAke sure you spread the bondo or putty about a foot above and below the door molding. (It is much easier with the door off)

4.) After the groove is full of bondo take your Orbital Sander and go to work with 80 gritt sand paper. After the mass is taken down you need to guide coat the puddy and block sand with 120 gritt the door panels. DONT MAKE GROOVES!!!!

5.) Last sand by hand with 400 gritt wet sand paper until smooth as glass.

DONT DO THIS IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

good luck

maybe you can get a dent puller and pull sopme if the groove out , this way you dont have 2 inches of bondo there. IMO
I'm not a pro.
