? on lower ic pipe on 2g

i had my whole front end off this weekend and i decided that i would clean the IC an when i did i took off the lilblack box thing that was in the lower ic pipe and replaced it with a pipe and it upped my boost from 12 - 14 psi was this lil blck box important cause it was hollow my dumbass b4 askn went ahead an cut it in half an opened it, the intet to it was the same as the outlet one hole for both it made apsolutely no sense at all why it was there, can anyone tell me if i fuked up by takin dis thing off my car an destroying it ???

That box does absolutly nothing, I rember reading on DSM.org that it was like a intake silencer or something, but anytime you have a FMIC it is eliminated so....destroy it some more!

I think it is only on 95-96. It is right next to the smic. Sorry I don't have a pic.

To add more mystery... my 95 Automatic TSi AWD, built October 94 did not have this box. My 95 Manual TSi AWD, also built in October 94, DID have this weird ass box. I took it out when swapping the 16g and piping from my old automatic, so I can't comment on the effects of just removing it alone. I think I still have it somewhere.... weird thing.

i had it on my car but removed it when i installed upper and lower greddy ic pipes you dont need that box it probably just slows down the air flow
