So I've been dealing with TONS of drama with my rebuild and in my searching I saw something about the neon RTs had a little better rod in them (something close to the srt-4 rod). Anyone know anything about this? I'm in the market for a block now and found a good deal on a neon rt short block
 
Can you run an srt rod? I'm sure you can find a used set pretty cheap on srtforums
 
You can't run an SRT rod in a 2.0 motor, just won't work because of length and bore size. What year RT are you looking at using? Unless I'm remembering something incorrectly the RT had the same bottom end as the regular neons. The intake, cam, airbox and suspension among other things I think is what made the difference.

I think it was a 97ish don't remember for sure, thanks for the link ill do some more reading. Just looking for a little edge if possible I've had nothing but issues with this build so far and now I'm just wanting to get it running and on the road and ill worry about the turbo later, I was only planing a small 10 psi build
 
Yeah, there's no notable difference between them. The Neon R/T (1g) was made in 98-99. The only real differences between it and the regular DOHC Neon was the ECU tuning, transmission (got a 3.94 final drive with the .81 fifth gear) Suspension tuning (stiffer springs, rear sway bar and larger sway bars) Rear disc brakes, upgraded interior, and exterior stripe package.

The R/T was really an ACR with options. The ACR, however did get Arvin (95/96) or Koni (97-99) shocks, however. But it was a no-option car. The only options you could get on an ACR was a radio and A/C. So the R/T gave you the better suspension, brakes and such but with power options and a sunroof option.

Also note that the ACR and R/T were both offered in 2 or 4 door. However, all R/T's were DOHC... the ACR sedan was a SOHC 2.0L and the coupe was a DOHC 2.0L.

2g ACRs and DOHC's were all the SOHC "magnum" engines.

Long story short, the engines remained the same internally.
 
Actually that is what is similar to our cars, but different than other Neon's.

That's true (and the dsm utilized a hydraulic vs. cable driven clutch... until mid 2000 on the Neon); but was really just pointing out the differences between a Neon RT/ACR and the regular 'ol DOHC Neon. :)

On a side note... I secretly am lusting for a blue 1g R/T coupe with an SRT4 drivetrain. :rocks:
 
Ok so there the same then, so no reason to pay any extra for them.

I know using the DOHC bottom end and SOHC head gives a higher CR, and the SHOC bottom with the DOHC head a lower CR-is that because of the pistons, or just difference in the head combustion chamber?

On a side note... I secretly am lusting for a blue 1g R/T coupe with an SRT4 drivetrain. :rocks:

The SOHC uses a dished piston
