so i just rebuild my turbo because of the white smoke. thats taken care of. now it flutters from my turbo......compressor surge written all over it. i can find the problem thou. i have a brand new godspeed 38mm wastegate which works prefectly till the turbo smoked. then a got a new greddy type s bov. no leaks anywhere. compression tedo sted the engine and all at 180.....what do you guys think it is??? im getting frustrated here because i got an 11 psi spring in my wastegate and only doing 7psi. and the bov takes forever to open. anything willl help. thanks guys

Are you sure the bov isnt fluttering? Mine does and I'm running 7 psi, unless I really get on it.

That's kind of a strange problem...If you have an 11psi spring and your only hitting 7psi that usually indicates some kind of boost leak. But if you have that big of a leak you shouldn't be getting compressor surge. First thing I'd check are all the vac lines going to the wastegate and BOV. And obviously a boost leak test.

BOV is too stiff, or you have an insane boost leak that is causing the turbo to overwork.

The BOV should only be stiff enough to be barely open at idle, like 1/8" at the most. If the spring is too stiff the valve can not be drawn open and you'll be stuck with compressor surge.

If your wastegate has an 11psi spring and you're only making 7psi, something is wrong. Either you have a boost leak or a pre-turbine exhaust leak.

i have the wastegate line to the turbo. i have the bov to the intake manifold in the back. and the fmu and boost gause both on a separate line going to the intake. yesterday i stuck a smoke machine in the wastegate and it smokes out like crazy. u guys think that can be the problem?? there are two openings on the wastegate and im using the bottom one. ik have another wastegate thats an ebay wastegate but when i put it on the smoke machine its not leaking at all..... could the wastegate cause compressor surge?
