I am wanting to build up my top end. I have a 99 GS N/T (w/ turbo). I was told that a PT Cruiser top end will work. What parts do I need ? Obvisously I will need the rockers, valves, and springs, but what else can be used ? Can the cam shafts be used ? Has anyone done this ? If so what improvements where made ? Was it worth it ? Help me out guys!!!! :thumb:

The most common parts to use from the PT Cruiser are the lifters and rockers; those are truly upgrades from your stockers. I'm not sure how much of the rest, if any, is a real upgrade to your valvetrain.

The valves, springs, and retainers shouldn't be any different between the two cars. If you're building your head for performance (as opposed to a re-build for maintenance or repairs), I would get Crane or Crower cams and springs, OEM keepers, and OEM seals and valves, and PT Cruiser lifters and rockers.

You should probably update your vehicle profile as well...haven't I said that in another post

If you're really lookin to "build-up" your top end, then you should get aftermarket turbo grind cams with stiffer springs and adjustable gears. Then go through and replace everything else as stated, and you should be sittin pretty :thumb:

What kind of duration should I look for on the cam shafts ? Also, I do have AEM cam gears and when my internet is a little faster, I'll update my profile. Give me some time.:thumb:

These durations would be ideal:

Intake Duration 246@006 Lift .364 inch
Exhaust Duration 238@006 Lift .325inch

(these are the durations of the Crane 0014 Turbo Grind Cams)

What kind of idle should I expect with that grind ? I read somewhere that the 420's should stay with the Crane 00011's. I am running mostly street so I want to keep the good driveability and smoothness that I am experiencing now.

It shouldn't be too drastic of a change, those cams are specifically called "Street Turbo Grind" cams. If you got their drag variation, the effects would be much more noticeable.
