I know that we have a knock sensor but that it reads in Volts instead of ??? anyways I would like to install an aftermarket knock sensor so that i can keep track of knock. I know that MSD as one but it still does not display the # of knocks instead just when it gets bad. J&S safeguard is what i really would like but not for that price. Right know i am rebuilding my engine again and want to make sure i monitor everything important. So any suggestions??

None that I know of. Some people have made their own listening device, but you're going to be hard pressed to find a boosted 2GNTer with any kind of boost monitoring system like the ones you mentioned.

I believe MSnS might offer something for the monitoring of knock, as I remember someone telling me it will pull timing for you if it detects knock, but I do not recall the specifics. You might google their forums and check it out.

That's all I got aside from saying knock is bad. Watch your EGTs. :p

Thanks, it does not have to retard timing or anything in that sense. All I want is just a number read-out of knock. And believe me there is nothing on it here I have been looking. :(

i might just be a little uneducated on this but i dont belive any knock sensors give you a number of knocks. i knock sensor is a piezoelectric sensor meaning when stimulated it produces electricity, in a knock sensor it is stimulated by vibrations, the stronger the vibration or in a cars case the stronger the knock the higher the voltage output. now i see no reason why a simple device set to count any spike out of the knock senor couldnt be made i just dont know the details on doing it. but maybe this note will get people thinking, and hopefully building. hope this helps

just remeber the number is not the most important thing to watch, the strength of the knock is. it might only take one very strong one to put a hurting on your engine.

I know this is crazy old but it's not worth opening a new threw for a direct easy question. Will you throw a check engine light or have your car not run right if you don't have a knock sensor hooked up like if you just eliminated the sensor but left the wire plugged into the ecu

I believe the ECU requires the presence of a knock sensor to start the car. I would have to go over the schematics once more to double check, but it should check for the crank angle sensor, camshaft position sensor, knock sensor and one or two others before it supples fuel and spark.

Man this neon block is really becoming a PITA. The only reason I say that is because the neon block I have didn't have a knock sensor hook up anywhere near where it was on my eclipse block and I was gonna see if I could just bypass it.

have you set it up and tuned it for the knock sensor so that it accurately can count the knocks? i have the *error* extra board and i know it has an led output you can you can use that to see when knock occurs, and you could also tune the knock peramiters so that it will automatically advance and retard the timing for you based on how many counts of knock there are.

Problem is the hole in the knocksensor that came with it!I have a threaded hole in my block not being used but the bolt that goes in that hole is just a little to big for the hole in the sensor havent really gotten around to make something work since its winter and it's parked but I guess I should start looking into that before it warms up.
