Hey all,

Im starting to price together a rebuild for my engine and was just curious on compression. What are the advantages/disadvantages with lowering compression vs stock compression? I know you lower to decrease boost lag and detonation and all but can you still safely run stock compression and make it work? Because Id still like a decent off the line torque-ful launch and less reliance on the turbo. Is this safe to do?

Im a little lost once you get inside the engine ... its the only place I havent messed with yet so I need experienced individuals to inform of whether this is able to be done or not. Will it hurt the engine? Will it be fine? ::shrug::

its like a seesaw... the higher the compression, the lower the boost your capable of running, but the lower compression the higher the boost you can run. you can run boost on stock compression, but you cant get stock compression after market forged pistons without gettting them custom made. JE only makes 8.6 and 10.5. there are some guys on 2gnt that are running high comp low boost setups with the 10.5 pistons.

check out howells for there bottom end kits or vtengines.com, i say go with a low comp setup because alot of people go this route.alot eaiser to tune and u can run more boost.

Ok cool ... thanks for the replies guys ... Im really just kinda of concerned about not having a reliance on boost. I would like a decent launch instead of always playing catchup ... I mean as I sit I cant launch hardly anything, they all jump in front and its a catchup battle. I guess Im looking to aim for a more balanced car ... and I enjoy Autox alot so I want power readily available when I punch it ... If these were your aims what compression would you go for? Would I still have a decent punch for getting to the cone or should I work on high compression for this? Thanks again guys ...
