so i gotta get my car back on the road. im replacing the outer boot on my passenger side cv shaft. I have the axle out, the cv end off, need boot on shaft and having a bi*** of a time trying to get the cv end back on with the retaining clip there. it just gets jammed up on it when i try to hit the cv end back on. any pointers?

I know this doesn't answer your question, but are preemptively replacing the boot? It's generally not a good idea to replace just the boot if it was torn; chances are the CV joint is damaged too.

...just some friendly advice to avoid further work down the road.

it was just recently torn and not majorly either. so a boot replacement is all that is needed.

Wooden block on end of cv shaft and use a BFH and smack it in...

tried this method and it seemed to just try and push the retaining clip out of the groove.
