Lakefield,
After reading the the thread about who has the fastest N/t and another about beating a Z24 cavi. I was going to do an all motor setup but after reading through these threads its obvious what needs to be done.

I am looking into the Star Stage II kit, or simply the Stage I to start off. I need a new motor as of now, but my old block is still good so i am thinking of dropping in new motor for now just to drive the car again. Then rebuild the old motor.

Does anybody in here have any input on the Stage I kit? good way to start off with turbo?

And then add a FMIC later?

If you have the disposition to install any engine (for now) and rebuild a spare one, you should be thinking more of 'forged internals' rather than 'turbo kits' first, you see, once you get any turbo kit you get into 'boosting' real quick by raising boost levels, but remember your engine can only hold so much, so this is way it's better to install some forged pistons and good rings like clevite77 or any other good brand, even maybe a 2.2 stroker cranckshaft and dont forget some good gaskets/seals all the way around the motor, once you have a engine setup your happy with then worry about a turbo kit, wich by this point you should be able to go with Stage 2 runing some good boost, and will be even better if you get the FMIC at the same time.

-yeah this all sounds so easy, but it takes time and money, but I believe it's the best way of going from NT to Turbo, I mean if you want for it to last in the long run,

PS: turbo kits are somewhat $2000+, for less then $1000 you can get good internals and all your motor put together if you do it yourself... just think about what is your Goal, that'll help you figure it out.

Time to get this done is not an issue with me. I know its gonna take a while for me to save up for a kit, along with the internals.

I planned on building the old motor if block is still good with forged internals also.
My goal for this car is not to be the fastest car out there or kill every car i meet at the stop light, i just want a little boost when i need it.

There is always somebody faster out there.

Where can i find an MLS head gasket for the 420A??
All work will be done in my garage except machine work on the block or head.

Stage One is ok, but I'd go with a HRC kit instead.. personal preference.

You should be able to go to the dealership and get MLS headgasket, just order one for a 99 n/t, I believe that's when they changed it.

go to the dealership?

I dont like the sound of that one bit, every time i have been to a dealer for parts its outrageous!

By chance would you know how much its gonna run me?
Any Chance an MLS gasket for a Neon DOHC would work?

They don;t even offer any other HG except for the MLS anymore AFIK. You can get the whole upper gasket kit for less than 150. And the will give you everything to swap out your HG and replace all the seals you remove to get to it in the process.

$150 doesn't seem to bad, i was looking foward to about 300$ :thumbdown

So can i go to a Chrysler dearl to get this then? only Mitsubishi dealer close is 3 hours away.

Indeed they are. You shouldn't be embarassed by the fact that your car is non-turbo, you should be embarrassed to have to be associated with all the bench-racing retards. They're the ones who make us all look bad. People can argue over whether this or that is faster, but unless you've been to the track and have first hand experience, you're just talking out your ass.

The best reason I can see for pursuing the all-motor set up is for the hasn't been done before aspect. Look at it this way: How many turbo charged DSMs (of either engine code) run 14 second ETs? Now how many NT DSMs do the same? 1 that has been documented and only a handful of others that are even close. You don't have to run 12 seconds if you're NT, it just seems that way because you're a DSMer and you're exposed to the most wicked sport compact cars on the street.

Personally, I'm working on the first 200whp 2GNT and pulling off a 14.9, then I'm looking into a decent turbo set up that can hang with my high-compression and 8000+rpm redline. :thumb: :talon:

Well said and an excellent mentality to have. Good luck on those 14.9's. We're all pulling for you :)
