I was just wondering if getting a valve job done create more power. I was reading the description on the fasterthanyou.com 420a ricekiller/domestic killer head and it says they do a continuous radius valve job("We do a continuous radius valve job. What's that mean? It means there are no "angles", but a continuous smooth transition throughout the surface of the valve seat. How many angles does our head have? How high can you count?" for those who havent read it yet). I was wondering if this creates any "extra" power that didnt exist from the factory?

IMO, a continuous radius valve job will help in making more power.. Anything that allows air and fuel to enter the combustion chamber with less obstructions will increase power output. I just got my cylinder head upgraded. It included a continuous radius valve job on the intake and exhaust, port matched the intake and exhaust ports, Blended the bowls, deburred the combustion chamber, stainless steel 1mm oversized valves, Crower titainium springs and retainers, Bronze valve guides and new valve seals. I also replaced the auto cams with a set of 5 speed cams from a 92 eclipse gst.

One week after getting the car back from Turbotrix i went to Engilshtown and ran 14.35 on 12psi with an automatic. Before this change/upgrade,the car ran 15.32 on 16psi with a stock head.

From personal exp., i would say that increasing air/fuel flow into and out of the head = hp gains....

It should add more to an NT than a turbo engine. Valve seat, intake port, combustion chamber shaping, valve unshrouding are all performance boosters. The amount depends quite a lot on luck, unless you've done a lot of it with a flowbench in the past, and know exactly what a given motor's preferences are.
Just radiusing valve seats, with no other changes, _might_ get you 5 horses, but it also isn't likely to be consistent: at a given RPM you may add ten, but at others you may lose a few. The dynamics involved in continuously-varying intake flow, especially after a throttle plate, are incalculably complex. There are areas in the flow that you don't _want_ a smooth path, and others where it's crucial.

If you can afford it, I'd pay $40 for the work.

I want to do this upgrade to an extra head that I have but my head is from a 420a to who can I send it to and how much will it cost me plus shipping if anyone knows this and what valves to use, also bottom end as well, piston, rod, etc. Thanks a bunch guys.

Here we go again!

If you want to be as fast as the guys who've put 3 grand into a 4g63, you may as well give up now. I know. As a 2GNT owner, I am bypassing the turbo route. I am going all motor myself. I doubt if I will ever get above 200hp at the crank this way (but damn if I wont try!). I am doing it to have fun and to make the random, non-modded GST owner v e r y nervous as well as to have a decent autoX car.

Getting a full battery of headwork done is not the holy grail of NT tuning, rather it makes a very good supporting mod for your other bolt ons and the like. Think of it this way, if you have a CAI and a catback, then you really need a header and headwork like this to complete the A/F flow mods. Well, the air anyways. Proper headwork will make the other power modifications you do produce more power.

You can get headwork done on the 420a by NRGY heads in AZ (check NEONS.org) or you could post over at 2GNT.com to see if anyone there knows a decent machine shop in your area. Don't give up the fight. Just set reasonable goals and you'll be happy with your car. :thumb

As much as I would like to drop in a massaged 2.6L on the bottle, it's already been done by someone at 2GNT. He's running that engine with that kind of N2O and he's trubocharged as well! OMG

I still consider the 2.4 swap to be fairly expiramental at this point. I think I will have my hands busy tuning an engine that was originally designed to be under that hood. Although I do think it would've been nice to stroke that sucker when I was in there...

Either way! My goal is to be the fastest 2.0L 2GNT in the country when we all roll into the shootout next year. Everyone wish me luck! :thumb:

45chp to go... :talon: :D

Hmm. well youre right, its a bit too late now I guess.

The added torque from the 22% displacement increase would have helped push you that much power without the aid of n20 or forced induction. Hopefully the added cams and if youre P & P the head will help.

I know about Brynden. When will he post his dyno #'s or 1/4 times already?

Im lazy. Whats the estimate added hp increase from the AFX race ecu again?

Im thinking you'll get more out of the DFI 6. youll be able to tweak it more yourself. I bought mine from (yes you guessed it!) Gary himself at Howell Automotive. also need an ignition box (msd or crane). As of now, I or anyone else for that matter cant use it as a full stand alone due to the fact that it needs to run off a distributor; but Im waiting on one that Pete from Performance Distributor is making soley for the 420a. Should be done by the end of this month.

I paid $400 for my DFI 6 (used). Ive seen them on ebay for 500 to 600.
