What will this do to my 1.8l

Aight i have a 1.8l Eclipse GS and next year will be getting AWD(around june)(thats when parents are letting me get a 5spd)

My Question is i want sound, all i care about is sound, i love the sound of a pipe on a car, so i am prolly going to get a magnaflow muffler(friend has one) and am thinking about getting a test pipe.

I want loud, but don't want straight pipes, can i jsut take off the cat and put a test pipe on there? or do i need a new downpipe, also if i get a 3" pipe and test pipe will it hurt my HP, or should i get the 2.5" and tet pipe?


Please no ricer comments i know i know.

3in pipe will hurt your hp and back presure alot 2.5in at the most. not really sure about the down pipe. if u did, i think u would have to get one fabricated cause i don't think they make one for the 1.8L that i know of.
i would get a highflow cat, you wouldn't loose as much back presure and it still could be loud and legal. you can get high flow cats off ebay real cheap and still brand. hope this helps

If you want top speed, then sure get a downpipe for a 2.0L FWD, highflow cat and 2.5" mandrel bent catback. but all of these will kill you're low end torque, but if it's what you want, go ahead.

Magnaflow is exspensive! Plus if you get 1 of there Stainless Steel w/ tips it will come out at an angle. Well, any muffler shop could fix that. But anyho. Get a nice aftermarket SS muffler w/o a tip and buy a BIG cannonball tip, or nice dual outlet tip, for it. www.bigexhaust.com has some good deals on mufflers and tips. Check around before you go rushing into stuff like my cousin did. He put a racing magnaflow muffler on his Lancer Evo 7 because some guy had it instock when he was checking around. So, he got it and got it put on w/ 2.5" pipe from cat back. It sounds like SH*T!! But it's your car. And it's a different engine. So, who knows.

first off, NT's don't have 'downpipes' it is an intermediate pipe,and the 1.8 and 2.0 pipes are not the same.


Josh,i would advise you to run a stock GST exhaust,it is 2.25" whereas the 1.8 is 2" i think.. you could run the 2l NT exhaust but it has like two resonators that the GST exhaust dose'nt have. it will have a nice sound and you wil get a preformance gain from it.
BTW the 90 GST muffler is more restrictive than the 91+ so try not to get that, if you take my advice.

I understand he was trying to help, i appreciate that, but he is wasting his time. When i have my AWD car and want performance i will ask for it, i specifically said "i want sound, all i care about is sound," and "I want loud" I didn't say "I want a performance muffler that is loud and has good performance" all i wanted was sound

Sorry if you took what i said in the wrong way but i don't want you to waste your time by telling me all this crap that i don't/won't care about till next year.

So until then i want the "Dude get this one its mad tyte and sounds LOUD" comments with a link tot eh exhaust.

I have found my exhaust and ill tlak to my local FLC to get my pipe installed.

Exactly. Why go for sound if you arent going to get any performance too? Lets say you pull up next to a Honda Civic. He hears your car and thinks you are running a performance car and wants to race, why not have the extra power to compete instead of looking like a fool. You dont want to be all show and no go. People will think you are a wanna be trying to be all fast and furious. Dont be a wannabe.

Myself, I would rather want a sleeper. Something that doesnt look too fast, but would smoke the hell out of any competition.

Like i was SAYING BEFORE my 1.8l POC that is never going to be fast anyway(sorry guys) i am not going to put the time and money into it to make it go fast, itsnot AWD like i want, its not turbo like i want, and if i put turbo itll never be as fast as i want, therefore i am buying AWD next year and that is the car that i will get a PERFORMANCE exhaust, and PERFOMANCE crap, this is my rice rocket LIKE I PREVIOUSLY STATED


BTW if a car pulls up next to me and wants to race, i rev my engine, he revs his, the light turns green and he takes off like a moron and i jsut cruise to the next light. It'll make him look retarded and ill look like nothing ever happened.

Yeah lay off the 1.8l if you want to make it loud rip off your intake. Believe me your ears will be pleased. And please don't put a mufler on your car because whenever you get out some car wizard will want to beat your ass. Save the money for gas once you get the AWD.
