is there ne chance in makin my non-turbo dsm beat a 5.0L mustang?
with or without turbo??
with or without nos??
can i just get a bunch of parts and port everything round and get intake and cat back and better tranny??
also what is a good upgrade for a tranny for a 1g non-turbo, or is factory the best?

this #@%#@%#@% on my street bought a POS 89 mustang 5.0L all rusted to #@%#@%#@%#@% for like $2000 and he is always beatin up on me (obviously) and it drives me INSANE!!

yes, just keep adding parts, modding them and porting everything and tune the hell out of it. If this isnt enough build internal, niterous or turbo. Also really get your driving and shifting down, practice.

it would take a lot of work to beat even a stock 5.0L.....maybe the 96-98gts...even those run low 15s

You would need all of the above. A prayer wouldn't hurt;)

But staying N/A without turbo or nos is highly unlikely.

it is a bone stock POS.. and he drives it like he driving a cobra R.. URGHHH
what kinda mods, my mastercard is paid off time to max it out again!:D
and what about tranny.. what kinda tranny is good price and all around the best for my car.. my 2nd gear grinds at least twice a day and i desperately need new one.. should i just go factory?

Go turbo if you got the cash. Not sure what the older Mustangs can run the 1/4 in but the newer one's (GT models) can run high 13s.

Or just keep making fun of how bad his car looks and act like it doesn't bother you at all that he can beat you.

By the way, does he have a mullet? It seems like all the guys that drive those old pos mustangs have a mullet.

GettinHUGE
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm SHITING MYSELF RETARDED RIGHT NOW... he does have a mullet!!!
and no i can't afford the turbo conversion right now.. it would cost thousands of dollars canadian to do that.. i'm lookin at about 1 grand under the hood.. can it be done??
this is what i had in mind... feel free to add on to this and/or correct me if something won't work or is wrong
port throttle body
port out cylinders
cat-back exhaust
420cc fuel injectors
hack up the air can just run an open k&n filter
ngk spark plugs
magnecore 9mm wires

How much extra HP will that add???
and what else should be on the list?

i'd do a good tuneup first off...get everything running it's best. then do the basics....intake, exhaust, all that small (but necessary) stuff. then nitrous along with all necessary supporting mods. that's gonna be your cheapest route and you may have a chance at beating him.

$1000 under the hood will not beat a 5.0 stang. Unless the motor is really tired.
Your car (stock) = 130hp
His car (stock) = 225hp w/ near 280ft-lbs of torque

If you are very lucky, you will get 20hp from the mods on the list. What do you mean by "port the cylinders"? Does this mean bore over the cylinders?

not just hp is whats involved in the comparison, how the two cars use the hp, how they hook up, the wear of the parts and the friction involved in putting down the power and finally the skill of the driver, so a lower hp car can easily beat out higher hp cars, i do it alot.

You must be out of your mind. No 135 HP car with $1000 worth of mods is going to beat a 5.0 mustang. I don't care if it's Mario Andretti behind the wheel. And you're right, you just can't compare hp. You also have to look at torque.

hondahater I think he has you beat for a while. You're car does have potential, but in order to run with this guy you would need NOS or a turbo.

if the gap in hp is that far, then no even driving skills wont make up for it, just spend your money wisely and kick his a#@.

i don't need nos or turbo.. i've seen a 1g get up about 280hp without nos or turbo.. but that was alot of money the guy told me
and ya i did mean bore out cylinders not port.. my fault
i mean common guys don't knock on me help me kick this guys ass

for real..i ran my friends bone stock 86 gt...this car only has 200hp...we ran from a 2nd gear roll and it was neck and neck up to 120

granted my car is basically stock with just a kn,gutted cat,and 13 psi...of course i could have turned up the boost and won :D

thats a good thing with a turbo car! you really can't do that with an N/a car...you need cubic inches and a non-turbo DSM just doesn't have enough

really $1000 would come really close to being enough to go turbo. Check out the thread on turboing the 4g63 nt in this forum. If you get everything used and find good deals you can probably do a conversion for $600-$800 US dollars, i'm not sure what that is in canadian. About the tranny there are 2 good tranny rebuilders unfortunatly I forgot their names but you will want them to rebuild to nt specifications since the non-turbo transmission has better gear ratios for acceleration.

Exactly my point Laserlx. You're car is a turbo racing the stang. Hondahunter, I'm not knocking you. I'm just letting you know that you're in a 65+ hp deficit and an even bigger hole in torque. $1000 will go a long way, but not enough to beat a V8. And I'm interested in finding out about this 280hp 1G. I take it that's crank hp?!?!?

280hp???? LOL! YEAH RIGHT! were you told this or did you actually see the dyno, because i have a REALLY hard time believing that one. it may be possible (but most likely not), but the amount it would cost along with supporting mods would be absolutley absurd and impractical. prolly buy a TT supra for about the same price.....

i was told this.. did not see a dyno.. the guy is a mechanic at a very well known shop in windsor.. but i believe him.. he knows his #@%#@%#@%#@%.. take the honda s2000 for insance.. most hp generated car per liter made.. 140 hp per liter.. no turbo.. so i kinda believe him

yah i can get the parts.. but how much to have it all installed is my problem.. i haven't the slightest clue how to install a turbo and screw around with all that other stuff. i had my share of problems just changing my valve stems.. and that's an easy task for someone who knows their stuff. i'm too incompetant to the engine of a car to do somethin like this.. i know more than the average person but not nearly enough for this project

Hondahunter- you gotta start somewhere. There is plenty of info on the vfaq. If you take your time, you'll save a lot of $$$. When you have a question, just ask here. Also use DSMTalk.com too, they know their sh*t.

HondaHunter,

If you can change your valve stems, you have the mental capacity for a turbo upgrade. You should DEFINATELY be able to do this for a grand. Find yourself a wrecked Turbo, and buy everything you can. Essentially, all you will need is the turbo, manifold, BOV, Piping, Boost Gauge, MBC and intercooler. If you're on the cheap, a Turbo FWD exhaust will also bolt up to your 2.0 NT and give you a few HP. Contrary to popular belief, Rustangs are not that fast. If you were talking a 350 Camaro, I'd say differently, but you're talking about a 302 engine with HUGE obstructions in the flow path of the heads. 225 HP was only for the H.O. motor for that year. If he has a standard motor, you are only dealing with around 200HP. If the GT is bone stock, you will walk him with a turbo. Just make sure you get the kit off of a 1G, as the 2G (T-25) turbo will not be enough with your high compression pistons. You should easily be able to get 200+ HP out of your NT with a 14b. If you don't feel like doing the turbo, try this recipe:
Plugs, Magnecor Wires, K&N, Hacked Airbox, High-Flow Cat, Cat-Back Exhaust, Zex Nitrous Kit with 75HP Jet. That should get you into the 225HP range if you do all the work yourself. Remember also that the rustang weighs a good 3300Lbs., so you also have a good 400 Lb gain on him. The general rule of thumb is for every 10 lbs of weight you lose, you will gain 1HP, so 400 pounds should be good for a 40HP difference. Either way you go, this car will haul a$$
Good Luck
Matt.
