Has anyone have any info on these things? I have seen them on various automotive parts web sites, and they fit 1st Gens, but I haven't heard much more about them.

I checked out K&N's website, and they proclaim a horespower increase "up to 26HP" what ever that's worth...

Any K&N filter is better because they are made of fabric as opposed to paper. They are also washable. Whatever you do, DON'T expect a 26hp gain, you would be very very very lucky if you got half that! They're the best filter kits IMO though:D

I have a turbo and I noticed you are N/A so I'm not sure it will work for you but I would recommend getting a K&N cone type instead of the FIPK drop-in replacement. I (the cone) has more surface area. But like I said I am unfamilar with the N/A cars and I thought I would take a shot at your question.

i think the filter for your car will be a cone filter (drop in, if u are an 1.8), so just attach it to the lid cover and you will have saved quite a bit of money! Also, even though you are a N/A, you will see the difference, not as much as the turbo guys but you'll feel it. totally worth the 40-something dollars this costs.

i did some research and there is another thread in here somewhere about the fipk for the first gen, with a link to a website where you can buy it, it proclaims a 16 hp and 20 tp increase, thats alot for $130 bones but again this is for 2.0 i havent seen one for the 1.8 so like they said but the filter and bolt it on and you should see some more power.

When I put mine I could definatly feel the difference. The sound was alot better. You probably don't need the whole kit the filter is like $40 and for $100 more you just get a bracket and a metal ring to hold the filter in.

Has anyone had any problems with blowing out exhaust seals, and/or catalytic convertors after installing it?

i wouldnt worry about it, its not gonna create that big of difference, your cat and seals arent gonna go with a little or even alot of additional power added.
