I have a tsi now but before i had a 98 eclipse rs that kept ripping through power steering belts and my buddy's rs is rippin them now my girlfriends 99 gs is doing it i think its the bracket thats bent but anybody else with the same problem ?

ummm, no I don't have that problem, but if the power steering pulley is out of line AT ALL it will cut it up pretty harsh and break it. Fix that first.

1 year ago..,my power steering belt turn out on me..and its basicly a brand new belt still...so iw ent to the mechanic..and they said the reason why was because there too much tension in between the belts and the rotater....they got it fix and i never had the problem again..

i went through 2 belts in a month, they had to order me entirely new pullys...but then again i had it fixed at the dealership i work at and they're all crazy rednecks who cant fix anything :D

Yeah there are only a few things to replace. I would try the bearing on the tensioner pulley first. Then mabye the whole tensioner brackett if it is still not right. Does the pulley wabble at all? And of course when you tighten it all back up, you get the nut on the back or the pulley itself too right?

yea i'm with Xir Eclipse, my tensioner bearing was shot which kept throwing my belt. unfortunatly if you can't find a tensioner from a local junkyard, it's gonna be about 100 bucks from satan.

damm i had the same prob too.. at first fixed my pulley tensioner for the power steering pump and a\c.... shit is beautiful never had a problem... for over a year..

now im gettin pissed cuz my ####ing alternator bolt on top it always unscrews itself and i keep losing the bolt for the top... any 1 know what could be wrong?

My belts flew off right after my mechanic installed them! I think he tightned the tensioner too much and stripped it, not sure. The tensioner bold was wobbly after I checked it when the belts were off, and before, when I would steer the wheel at a standstil to the far right or left, it would screetch loud. Now I installed new ones again, but I'm hearing a clicking sound (like shaking a bunch of beads in a steel can) when Im driving. Its off and on, but I think someone told me that by tighting the belts too much, I could have stripped the bearings on the water pump?? Is this true? $85 for a new water pump as well as $85 bucks for timing belt, which I really DONT wanna do now since Im saving up for a rebuild and turbo anyway. I dont think its my clutch (not sure), because it shifts fine except for a bad 1st gear syncro
