has anyone else installed an Autometer Oil Pressure Gauge on N/T Eclipse? Shop I had working on my car said they couldn't connect it cause the sender unit wasn't the same size. Where exactly does it hook up at? I tried to look at vfaq.com but they didn't have anything helpful on there:confused:

Did you try to put the sending unit in place of the stocker? I've seen plenty of DSMs with those hooked up and they haven't had any probs. I'm not saying I don't believe you, its just weird.

The auto meter sending unit usually does not fit right in the block... you have to get a diff piece to make it fit.. What we did was take the stock one and broke it off.. then used the peice to make the autometer sending unit fit.. does that make sense??

yeah makes sense. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the sender unit the piece that goes into the adapter when I did my turbo conversion? If so that should be easy to fix (just gotta drop the downpipe so I can reach it)

The shop was pretty clueless when it came to the Eclipse - they worked mainly on RX-7's and Supra's so when my Eclipse showed up they were confused.

i took off the sending unit and just went to the hardware store and got the right fitting for my oil pressure gauge. i also have my oil line for my turbo back there, so i knew what was up ;)

personally, if you dont have a turbo, i dont see the point to wanting to put one on, but thats just me

My car's turbo but even if it wasn't I had a bad experience with throwing two rods through my block because the dummy light on the dash didn't indicate a problem until it was too late. Yeah the shop's in deap shit trouble with me as is cause they didn't override the MAP sensor so my car's got a 61 CEL code telling me the BARO Pressure is too high and a 43 CEL code telling me one of my cylinders is misfiring - a result of the MAP sensor retarding the timing to try and correct the pressure on the manifold.

Okay, call me a moron. But can you tell me exactly where the stock pressure sender is ? My shop manual lists every sensor under the sun except that one. If I had to guess I would said the one thats directly under the throttle body?

When installing a guage should you t-off and run it with the old sender or just eliminate the old sender altogether?

with electronic oil pressure gauges do you have to mess with the oil sender unit at all or just tap into some sensor wires like all the rest of the electronic gauges?

Some of the other posts that I have read say that you cant use the factory sender , its not calibrated for work with your aftermarket gauge and you would get a false reading.

That and I just have a dummy light , and I guess that sender is seriously less than accurate insofar as using it for a gauge.
