I have an unknown cat back, according to the previous owner, that has no brand labled anywhere on it. i feel like it sounds perfect but i really want to add headers and possibly a test pipe. Are there any that wont make my car sound like CRAP or at least wont rasp it out too much?

Just get any header. As for the test pipe, if you're really concerned about exhaust noise, get a resonator. Look on eBay for "high flow cat," most of those are resonators.

Adding a test pipe is going to add some noise. Really anything you cahage with your exhaust will altar the sound, but certain things will give you different variations in sound. Either way an exhaust manifold is to help with flow and then removing the test pipe is gonna be compounded onto that. More flow normally equals more sound. If you make the change you can expect it to be louder, but there's no way to tell for sure how it is going to sound.

You could start with the test pipe first and see what you think. I would think that would give you the biggest alteration in sound, and if you think you like it then leave it in. If not take it back out. good luck bro!

Depending on what kind of headers you get Tubular or cast that will change your sound, but will also increase HP....as far as a test pipe goes I would go ahead and do it but I would but a resonator or two in you exhaust system, and a test pipe will increase Torque!!!.....I have 3" Turbo back with a test pipe and double resonated with A'pexi N1 exhaust. And I love the sound of my baby!!!

^^^^^woops sorry didnt see your baby was an N/T....so you can only get tubular headers. So your sound is gonna change for sure. I would suggest getting rid of the no name muffler if you are going to get headers.

Agreed, when i added a test pipe on my NA many years ago, there was nothing but rasp. Any modification dealing with the exhaust will alter the sound. When i added the test pipe there really wasn't a power difference, it was just loud!! Turbo, is another story.

I don't think anyone could quantitatively tell you... nor could they qualitatively tell you to your satisfaction. A true high-flow catalytic converter (not one of the deceitful eBay resonators) will significantly dampen the sound. Headers won't add too much volume, and they're a necessary performance part anyway.
