crankshaft swap question?

Ok guys i've been doing a lot of research and was wonder if the 2.4L crankshaft rods and pistons out of a stratus would work in my 420a block. I had read somewhere that is the crank that they use for the stroker kits.

Is this true or not, because i have my block tore down ready to go to the machine shop with plans of a stroker kit and i have a 2.4L sitting behind my shop right now.

thanks guys.

No. The bore is different.

Well after extensive research, I guess the bore size is the same and if you are planning on boring your block anyways, you may be able to fanagle something. I would reccommend against it, however, especially if you plan on boosting it. You'd be better off just getting a built stroker kit, cause stock parts don't have the same tolerances as aftermarket. I guess it all boils down to how creative and unique you want to be.

2.0 litre main bearing journals are narrower than 2.4 litre's . The crank wont fit no matter what and the deck height is taller on the 2.4 as well. so better figure out what pistons youre gonna run to work with those rods even if you made the crank fit Best option is look into using the 2.4 block and crank with some aftermarket pistons. Little more modding to the rest of the setup but a little extra torque and much cheaper alternatives for pistons if youre going turbo

ok thanks guys. I have a 2.4l block complete and running when pulled (we pulled it for the tranny). So your saying that i can take the 2.4L block and run my 420a head on it and that would be my best bet.

I should add that im not PLANNING on boost but maybe some day down the road it might be a thought i just wanted to build a solid motor first.

And when you say a little extra modding to do the 2.4L are you talking about the head?

thanks again guys

big help

the timing side mount is different too. IIRC you have to modify bits from both the 2.0 and the 2.4 to get that to bolt in.

You have to:

-Remove balance shafts, plug oil hole and mod oil pan to accomodate exhaust.
-Fabricate a passenger side motor mount.
-Rotate the cam magnet.
-Swap injector and coil wires at the ECU plug so the motor can run.

Etc.

Get a nice set of cam's to help the motor breathe up top.

mostly, I think you have to fab a longer downpipe because the block is an inch taller.

you just reuse the 420a intake.

If your cousin is a machinest, everything is pretty easy and it will be well worth.

The 2.4 dies up top though, so anything that helps the motor breathe (porting, 60mm TB, cams, header) will make it even more worth while.
