OK guys having some serious issues here. The 420a block as two spacers each located in a corner. The headstuds go thru these two. I have a block that had broken ones in which the shop removed but Mitsu sent the wrong replacements. So I took the block home and the spacers finally showed up but I cannot get them to go in! What is the secret. Still not sure its the right ones since they screwed it up twice before (but the seem to be very close). But I even looked at the CAPS program and they match. I have tried using a hammer and a block of wood with no success. My old block still has the spacers in but I have no idea of how to remove them. So if anyone can tell me how to get the new ones in or get the old ones out it would be great.

Mine always tapped in easy. When i removed the old ones i heated them up a little and removed them with vise grips, I twisted them back and forth till they came out. You can not clamp them to hard or they will break. I think they are called aliment dowels.

Great thanks yes I think you are right with the name I drew a blank when I was typing. I will give it a shot tomorrow and see how it works. The ones I got almost seem that it is for the block to tranny alignment.

You might have gotten the dowels that go between the block and the bedplate instead of the ones that go between the head and the block.

So if anyone can tell me how to get the new ones in or get the old ones out it would be great.
Find a bolt that is just too tight to fit into the dowel. Then grind it around the circumference so that it fits in tightly. Tap into the old dowel with a hammer and that should allow you to pull them out with a twisting motion (I have a bolt that is in my "special tools" drawer that I made just for this application). When you have the full dowel you can use this bolt to pull them out using a pair of vise grips.

If that doesn't work then you will need to chip away at the dowel. It is hard but brittle. It will take a little "mining" to get it all out, but it will work.

As for the new ones, they should tap in relatively easily.

Does anyone know the exact part number for this? bc i tried getting the old ones out but alas they broke. Still cant get the new ones in, even thothey are very very close. But there is no way I havent tapped them hard enough.

Edit: Looking around on 2gnt.com seems like the OD is 14mm can anyone verify this? Also concerned about the length. I think I will just take the ones I have to a machine shop and get the ones I have shaved down a bit. Something they recommended uses aswell is a extrator bit for future reference.

Depending on the block, the part number is either M04448856 (95-96) or M04694106 (96+). They're sold in packages of two. I doubt there's a difference between the two part numbers, but I could be wrong.

I had that same thing happen to me when building my block.
You have to tap them in, it seems like they dont wanna go in, but with a few small taps they do.
They shouldnt take too much force to go in either, so be careful. Keep in mind that these alignment dowels keep the block and the head in place before the head bolts go in, they just cant be floating around.

Thanks for the part numbers velocita. I will call mitsu and double check the ones they gave me.
Edit: OK just got off the phone with them. The ones I have are #05240849
M04694106 is too small same size they got for me originally( i mean the headbolt is twice the size)
M04448856 they did not have so they are getting them for me should be here tomorrow

Ok so if these fit means I have a 95-96 block (bought the block used from a member-did not know what year) I have a 97 so far I have not seen any difference between the 2 blocks, is there any?

There shouldn't be a difference, but this is how CAPS lists them...
I interchange them from block to block, year to year. The only thing I can think of (if there is a difference at all) is the 97 to 99 MAY be SLIGHTLY shorter because of the supposed longer headbolt situation in the early years. Purely just a thought.

But its probably a supercession anyway :p
