I can't start off this thread with out stating how excited i am, my new ecu will be delivered tomarrow:hellyeah: :rocks::hellyeah: !!!

Now to the question, I have half a tank of 87 Octane, I know I am suppose to run 93 with the new ECU, so my questions is, should I run it to empty and refill it with 93 before the swap or will it be safe to break it in with the 87 and then use 93 after that tank.

Thanks for the info ahead of time, and i'll make sure to be posting tomarrow about how much i love it... hopefully...

If the ECU requires 92-93 then I say run out the 87 and refill with the good stuff before you swap. That way you know you're runnin what you should be.:thumb:

the ONLY reason why howell rec. using 93 with this because of the new fuel maps and farther advancement of timing... HOWEVER keep in mind a lot of places only sell 91...

gary only did this to cover his you know what...

if you want to be extremely cautious then run the tank down then swap it, but it wont hurt to fill the rest of the tank up with 93 and call it a day....

thanks for teh speedy responses, i ran it down to 1/4, was goign to do more driving but my coupler on my cai wore out and broke.. talk about a random problem, will replace that, run it down to about 1/8-1/16 then refill, i figure with as much as i spent, cant hurt to be to cautious

sorry to say but i didnt beat it today... thinking of rephrasing that...

Anyways i ran the hell outa it to about 1/8 of a tank, filled up with 93 Octane then drove home to install the new ECU. Off the bat I could tell it was better because the idle from starting it up felt a ton smoother, also with a regular ECU after a reset with stage 2 cams, I would stall for the first day or two in neutral, yet it didnt come close to stalling with the new ECU at all.

I have about 40 miles on the tank, I'd imagine it would be good enough or close to good enough to have burned up the rest of the 87 and learned the air-fuel mixture, so tomarrow I hope to test it out some, I'll keep ya guys posted.

Ok I did accelerate a little with about 5-10 miles on the tank, couldnt resist, while I didint push it to hard I did rather easily hit 120 in 4th gear, which is good considering I had an extra 300lbs in the car, (my bro and a bunch of his stuff was with me at the time). In a normal situation with that much extra weight as most of you know the cars power curve falls off sharply after 100mph. So I expect good things tomarrow.

sorry about not posting here in awhile, I really didnt want to do the "buttdyno" and was trying to talk my friend into buying a gtech pro and letting me barrow it =P

Anyways, the bad first. My stock ECU took about 3-4 days to learn my new setup with my stage 2 Cams and ran great, the AFX ECU ran perfectly the first day, but it has been two weeks and it still comes close to stalling when i reverse. It has its good and bad days with the idle in neutral, been trying to let it work itself out.
Also the gains from my buttdyno weren't all that impressive, from all the reviews i have read, i was almost expecting it to feel like i had added a miniturbo to my car, after all the dyno for the product showed around 10hp added to a stock car, i figured with my car I would be around 15+hp easily.

The good, it is possible i had my hopes to high for the feels, but it IS pulling harder. I was toping out at 120 in 4th the 2nd day after installation, but yesterday on my way home I saw a saturn sky and decided to play with them, i hit 130 in 4th, with another 200rpms to go till i needed to swith gears. I didnt get the huge gains in low end like I was hoping for, but top end, it is a beast. We all know how NA can strugle after we hit the 100-120 mark, but now the MPH gage actually keeps moving strong at these numbers.

Bottom line, I no longer need to second guess myself when I want to pass someone, if it works out the idle problems, then it will be a great investment. If you plan on going turbo, then I would skip this and save up for MS and the turbo, but if you are set on staying NA and don't have unlimited funds (like most of us) I would reccomend this ECU. There are gains, it learns new mods, and its amazingly easy to install.

Sorry about the long update, but been busy with summer and lots of side projects.

Anyways, overall it is a decent product, although it is taking a lot longer to tune itself than i thought it would, yet gains are still coming but slowly. With things slowly tuning its hard to say how much harder it is pulling, as you know, easier to feel one big gain then a bunch of slow ones. I can tell when I am running it hard that it is faster though.

So the ECU is runnign great and after testing out a stock GS, all I can really say after switchign abck to my car is wow.

Anyways I have another ECU question, I was getting some misfires in cylinder 4, and i think I mighta fixed the problem. My question is I want to clear the code so I can see if it does it again, yet I don't want to go through the week- two week period of my ECU re-tuning itself. Is there a way to clear the code with leaving my ECU in its current state?

Ours don't. They will pull the codes but won't clear them.........Maybe if you talk nice to them and bat your eyes :p

At the Advanced Auto Parts around here you just give them your driver's license and they let you do your own thing with the scanner. You can read the codes, clear them, or do whatever else you want.

thanks for the reply's i'll have to head to autozone this week. I didnt think that worked cause I have my own scan tool, and when i erase the codes, it seems to only erase the codes on my scanner and my check engine light remains on... maybe just a cheap scanner was only around $50.
