I have searched and searched this site and 2gnt for the answer to this question but it seems nobody has come straight forwad and given a real answer... I have, like I have read before a real bad hesitation at times... Most people replace their plugs and wires and it goes away but this did not work for me. If I am at anything over like 3000rpm and I stomp the gas to the floor the car bucks like if I was taping the brake or hitting the gas and then letting off and hitting it and letting off. It does it like 6 times then it finally starts to go. This is really hurting the accelration of my car and I don't know what to do... Oil changed.. oil filter replaced.. new plugs.. new wires.. No luck yet... My valve cover gasket is leaking a little bit and I am having it replaced in a few days but this couldn't be the problem could it? What the heck could it be and how can I tell I really hate this. Did anybody have this problem and actully fix it besides plugs&wires?? :cry:

Did you try bringing it to the dealer and asking them for a diagnostics. It's going to cost you 50+ but you'll know what's wrong.

do u have a header? if you do u might want to make sure you arent leaking. if not u are prob. leaking somehwhere else, or sucking in air in places air shouldnt be sucked. autozone or advance can run a diagnostic on ur car and give you a generalization of what could be wrong. if u talk to the guy enough he wont charge you anything. ;)

Gotta go with 98_silvergs...sounds like you could have a clogged fuel filter. But there are other possibilities I would say get the diag run though.

How much would it cost to get a fuel filter replaced and would the diagnostic thing tell me if it's the fuel filter or a vaccum leak or whatever the heck it is?

you can do the fuel filter your self. you just relieve the fuel presser (disconect the power from the fuel pump and turn the car on till it dies) then take out 2 bolts that hold the filter in and 2 bolts that hold the hoses on, on both sides and then bolt then new one back up.

to tell if you have a vaccume leak you would have to use a vaccume gauge. you can borrow one free form autozone.

you might want to get a haynes or chiltons book for better detail how to do this. you can get these books at autozone or pepboys

also replacing the coil would be wise and getting the Free computer check at auto zone would be my first move.

I wen't to autozone today and all they did was pop my hood and rev my engine till it hit the limiter and said it doesnt sound like I have any leaks... They said they have no gauges to check it and they can do no free diagnostics... I ordered a fuel filter and if that doesnt fix it I'm giving up

Hey don't ever give up man. I took my valve cover off once and forgot to put one of the gaskets around the spark plug chamber back in. It drove fine until I gave it a little gas, then it started sputtering. Check if you got any oil in your spark plug chambers. If you do, replace all the gaskets under the valve cover. There should be the main one on the edge of the cover and 4 around the spark chambers. Hope you figure it out soon.

dont forget to try the ignition coil. and if you get one let me know how much it is. i think i might replace mine before it messes up

Hey thanks man... I actually DO have oil in my #1 and #2 cylinders on top of my spark plugs... well not in the cylinder but like on top of the spark plug and at the bottom of the wires in the spark plug well. There is actually another thread about it because I was making sure that it was the Valve Cover Gasket and not something else... I am told I also need spark plug well gaskets so I'm calling the shop tonight to see what they say. I am dropping my car off to have the valve cover gasket and fuel filter replaced saturday at 2:30... And thanks to everyone else who posted here for me I'll be sure to let everyone know what happens.... If I still have the problem before I go and replace the ignition coil does anybody know if saten can do the vacum pressure test to test for a vacum leak cuz the 2 auto zones around here are a bunch of half retarded teenagers who just wanna hit the rev limiter and see if they can blow your engine.

Here are my words of wisdom:
First the fuel pump would be my thought but you already found
the problem so that cool. Alot of time when you get low on gas
and stomp the pedal to the floor the car will buck at about 3500
rpms. This could be a fuel filter or pump. You can also get a dealer
to do a ride along test on the PSI coming from your fuel pump as
you accelerate.

Also if you have a 2G and are looking for a coil pack Summit Racing
has a nice deal on them. 60.00 MSD and they are nice and easy to
install. Just make sure that you have the right part # for your coil
pack wire harness. There are two types part# 8229 and 8239 one
has a round tabs and the other has flat tabs. I bought one for my
woman went to put it on and sure enough had the wrong part#.

I only have a 53300 miles on my car... could my ignition coil be bad already? If the fuel filter doesn't fix the problem on saturday how could I tell if it's the fuel pump or the ignition coil.. just curious i'm prayin that the fuel filter is all it is.

Autozone does free diagnostic checking of the OBDII and EEC systems...
Have them run an OBDII test... there is a plug usually under the drivers side of the dash... it is somewhat generalized but usually points you in the right direction. LOL they can also turn off your check engine lights by deleting the codes in your system... but that wont fix the problem...
Fuel filter is an easy do it yourself thing... usually 5-10 bucks...
Also when you go to autozone get one of the guys in the grey shirts as they are the management....
RED=Sales
Grey=Management
Tan=Commericial

I used to work for them I dont call them autostupid for nothing....
Most of the guys in the Red shirts have not completed their tests... but usually all of the guys in the grey shirts have. Just a tip for ya!
Also they dont even need to be in your car while testing other than for hooking up the scanner... so dont let them get in and rev up your ####...

Nope you're wrong. atleast for the car he has you are.
I just bought a fuel filter for my wifes car and it was $26.37
and on some 98-99 model cars the fuel filter is NOT located
in the engine bay it's under the car near the gas tank. And usually
rusted to sh!t. I tried to get hers changed myself and had a hardtime
so I actually have to take it in to someone to have it changed.

im guessing if its not the oil in your spark plugs it is def. either fuel filter, ingnition coil, fuel injectors, clogged cat, intake mani leak. those all could cause what u are experiencing. good luck.:cool:

Thanks... I will make sure I post saturday night and tell what happened... I guess if the fuel filter and gasket being replaced doesnt fix it I'll move on to doing one of the fuel pressure tests with a dealer, and if that's not it check for manifold leak and then on the the igniton... I'm just hoping it's the fuel filter

Thank's soo much for your help everybody... had the fuel filter replaced today and the problem is 100% GONE!!! Haha I'm soo excited man I love you guys!!

Did it buck on you when you tried to floor it or get on it? Did it buck on you when you tried to take off, and idle like crap? My 95 GS is doing this right now and I have changed the plugs, plug wires, tested the coil, adjusted TB, new valve cover/oil ring gaskets, and new O2 sensor. I am curious if we have the same symptoms, cause I already replaced the fuel filter, but my fuel pump went out a month later. I guess the filter might have gotten water or something in there when that happened.

It idled really low and it would idle surge alot.. Yeah everytime i'd floor it it would buck really hard.. Read through the thread you could have gotten somethin in your fuel filter... if you can find one cheap and you have some money it could be worth a try if not look over the whole thread there are other things that could cause this but I see you have hit alot of them... i'm thinkin either fuel filter, air leaking in somewhere it shouldn't be such as a vacum leak... maby clogged injectors just read through the thread and see what you can find and I hope your luck is as good as mine turned out to be man.. If you read through this thread you should be able to narrow it down to what it could be and then have differnt stuff checked out... Let me know what you find..

:cry: IT IS DOING IT AGAIN!!! The fuel filter fixed it for a a week or so but now it's doing it again :cry: WHY!!!!???? :cry: :barf: Somebody please help me figure out why it's doing it again!?

could be:

fuel pump
fuel rails
injectors
fuel pressure regulator
o2 sensor
throttle body or throttle position sensor
durty fuel tank
filled up with wrong gas
crank walk OMG nah JK :D

just my guess hope it helps ;)
