I just installed my 255 walbro fuel pump on my 99 gs. After putting it in my car won't start. Any ideas on what this could be? I had gas still in the lines and when I first tried starting it it came on, then started jumping alot, and eventually died, the car won't start now. Just tries to turn over but nothing. Ideas please?

well i hope you have fpr. did you chec the wireing? take a piece of house and an empty soda bottle and put it on the fuel on top of the assembly and ctank it over and see if its pumping gas

Well, I don't have FPR was just wondering if I really needed it. Boo... guess I do.

yes big time. i ran a 255 with a stock fpr for a few days and the car ran so rich at idel and richer all the way around then it should of gas mileage went down the tubes. but your car should start. i belive theres a 255 denso from a talon i put in my escort it runs ok still gets almost 30mpg but it is running rich

LOL damn someone needs to do research before you install something. that walbro 255 will overrun your stock injectors and your stock fpr will not handel it. get yourself a after market one dude. or just put the stock one back in until you can get a AFPR

For the love of god, please look at the forum you're in before posting! For some reason a lot of 4G63 owners have been coming in here offering irrelevant advice. The 420A doesn't succumb to the same problems as the 4G63. A Walbro 255lph will not overrun the stock injectors or the stock FPR.

OP, double check everything for leaks. Especially check the fitting on the fuel pump that connects to the fuel pump assembly: that little O-ring can get dislodged easily during installation. Also make sure the electrical connections are solid.

Put the stock fuel pump back in and my car runs. Had to be that the car just couldn't run that much pressure from the new pump. If it should've been fine in my car I don't know what happened. Everything was connected securely... who knows...? oh well.

I have no clue. Many people, myself included, have dropped in a Walbro 255 (usually in preparation of installing a turbo) with absolutely no other modifications, and not had a problem.

Check the wiring, same happened to me and it was wiring. I just didnt plug the connecter all the way into the fuel pump.
Then check for leaks, make sure its not leaking at that flared fitting, thats where my other problem was. If so just use some leak lock and youll be good.
If the fuel pump is actually on and running, you will be able to hear it, its louder then the stock one and you will definatley notice, so if you dont hear it the pump simply isnt on.

In preparation of installling a turbo... that's exactley the route I'm going. I'll give it another try at some point.

Installed the 255 walbro with no other mods and it is working just fine. My problem that I found I had before was just the hose clamps were not tight enough, therefore not getting the fuel to the engine.

FIXED!

Umm in that case did you notice any fuel happen to be missing as well? ROFL

Good job on fixing it though!

Actually... no it must've gone directly back into the tank. It was the hose clamp connecting the pump.

I'll add that my next installs will be hopefully in the near future. I have most parts to do my turbo setup already. Just need to find the garage time.

I actually dont even have hose clamps on mine.
Thats makes me wonder... well its worked fine for a month now.

That had to be what it was, because all the other connections were correct. Oh well... if your's is working then don't bother it LOL.
