N/A Mild Performance.
I'm wanting to do some basic mods to my 98 GS auto and so far I have header, and exhaust on my list. I already have a CAI on the car at the moment. And I'm going the cheap way, ebay header and exhaust because I have heard so many ppl liking their ebay setup. So here is my question, on an NA 420a with intake, header, exhaust would it be worth buying the OBX Intake Manifold and a bigger TB like the 55mm one floating around ebay, or one off of a Jeep? I'm possibly thinking about doing nitrous as well for weekend track fun.

The OBX manifold youd have to put some work into it and youd have go on without your EGR. so for teh manifold youd be better off porting that a polishing it, maybe get a PTFE spacer for it to extend teh runners alil and insulate the upper manifold from teh lower one.
I intalled teh eBay 55mm TB with teh haflshaftmod this weekend, its gives really good on the highend and you get 40 back if you return your core.
Jeep TB iono much about but youd have to put some work into that too.
If your going to do nitrous you better know what your doing with it.
Another thing you should consider is a UnderDrivePulley, UDP.
Check out the AF/X one from HowellAutomotive.30% underdrive.
I dont know who carries teh Unorthodox ones.20% underdrive.
I have teh AF/X one with 30% underdrive and I havent had anyproblem with my power stering or atlernator. Im pretty sure you wouldnt have anything to worry about with the Unorthodox one either.
Dont forget these too. Tech Guide: 2G 420A Power Upgrades - DSMtuners
A Automatic wont be as fast as a 5 speed either so thatd be another thing you could get....if you want.

WRONG , With a sift kit ($24.99) a auto will out run a 5 speed in many cases, Plus it takes driver error out of the equation, No missing gears, no different shift points etc. A auto will shift at the same point every time and will shift the same speed every time. Plus they are Much much easier to launch. Just go to the track and watch....Stock for stock yes 5 speed>auto, Stock vs shift kit, 5 speed<=Auto. Btw 5 speeds are much funner and a little stronger, Which is why i will probably switch to one, But not for performance but for the fun of a 5 speed.

An automatic that does not have a stall will not out-launch a manual; unless the driver completely sucks. 95% of the time automatic cars are slower than their manual counterparts, especially on street cars; race cars are a different story, but they also do not utilize factory torque converters automatics. Besides it takes longer for a automatic to downshift and you cannot control variables in a stock tcu car, manuals are faster for a reason. Automatics can over-rev, have sloppy shifts, and will not launch very good at all; maybe you need to rethink your statement.

Yeah and you gotta keep gear ratio in mind. A 5 spd eclipse will be faster than a auto eclipse with a 420a NT setup. In your case ar guy a auto is just as good if not better as you stay in boost and can build boost off the line without a 2step. Still taboo with a race car lol j/k but it not ahandicap at all on a "turbo" car

You need to rethink your statement after you ride in my car, Leaves the line harder, runs to redline in every gear and the 1-2 shift is just plain scary

That is true i am turbo vs hes N/T, So like you said i can boost off line and hold boost intill i let off.
So n/a i guess the 5 speed mite be a little faster but not by much, Turbo on the other hand auto> 5 speed

Keywords being " with a sift kit" I take it you meant shift.
I meant Stock vs. Stock
I couldve said ya you can have your shift kit and ill have a 200 shot of NO2.
Who wins then

No i meant Shift Kit as in a "trans go A604 shift kit" and it is only $25.
So you need a 200 shot on NO2 to out run a auto now huh?

Im done here. If you want to keep thinking that go ahead. Im not going to get off topic anymore.

I'm sure I won't. I have an automatic turbo car (my 93 Tsi Awd) and my manual car will be alot more scary than yours, I would imagine (my cobra). If I ever make it up there for the shootout, we'll have to meet up and I'll go for a ride in your car.
Back on subject, skip the intake manifold; order the 55-60mm throttle body and an AFX underdrive pulley. The belts are included with the pulley, so don't worry about that. Maybe even put a little shot of nitrous on there and make sure and put some new plugs, you will be good to go; and get a shift kit. Make sure to buy that pulley though, that will probably be your biggest gain, from a single mod, without doing anything to the motor (cams, higher c.r. pistons, etc.)

I disagree but I'm a hp nut anything that makes you go faster no matter if only a little is worth it. If you want big gains contact All motor mike he makes a IM that is DEF worth every penny.

Thanks for the info, I was thinking about a UD pulley but heard so many horror stories mating those with Autos. I love manual it is so much fun, but in this car I'm going to stick with the auto, install a high stall tq converter, and if I have the balls do the shift kit. I was also looking into the final drive mod as well.
