Hello all,
I pulled out what I believe to be the TCM out of a 95 Talon that is of course an automatic but turboed. Will this TCM work on my 95 Eclipse GS N/T? It was located under the center console behind the ebrake. Is this the TCM?
Thanks
Chris

1st thing is first, what motor is your non-turbo 2g (420a, intake is on the driver side) or (4g63, intake is on the passenger side.) The reason I'm asking is because you could have a european version car which might change the answer to what I'm about to say.

As far as I know, most M/T's don't have a TCM. I'm assuming whatever motor you did pull, you are using the correct ecu now for a manual transmission car.

First off, 95 N/T 420a. Second, I did mention that both cars are automatic in my post, not MT and both are US vehicles. What I wanted to know if the TCM from the 95 Talon would work with my 95 Eclipse?

He asked if it was a european car because you say you are in Germany.

The TCM is down by your right foot, not under the center console. That is the SRS computer.

Ok, I thought the ECU was behind the stereo, so is that then the TCM? Then were is the ECU?
Thanks
Chris

Ok, So would the TCM from the 95 Talon Turbo Automatic then work with my 95 Eclipse N/T Automatic?
Thanks
Chris

So which is better, the one from the Talon or the one from my eclipse

Whoa... there is some pretty serious misinformation going on here:

Wrong, the TCM is right next to the ECU, in the engine bay. You're thinking of the 4G63 configuration, which is completely different.

Yes, they're basicly the same thing, besides cosmetics.
No, the turbo and N/T 2G TCMs are completely 100% different. For the record, rarely is anything compatible between turbo and N/T 2Gs.

Right, TCMs control the operation of automatic transmissions. Your right arm serves as the TCM in an M/T... hence, there is no TCM in an M/T.

My bad, I didn't realize he said 4G63 Talon. Thanks for the clearing up Paul.

Thanks Paul, once again you have saved me from what could have been an awful mess. Thanks for clearing this up.

Then what is behind the stereo? When I had cell, the mechanic plugged it to something under there?

Probably the OBDII port, or some European-variant thereof.

One good question is, what kind of N/T do you have? Euro spec? US spec? What kind of engine do you have... I've heard Euro spec 2G N/Ts come with the 4G63. If you could take a picture, or confirm what type of engine you have, we could help you better.

No EDM DSM's came with the 420a. If you do have an EDM DSM, the ECU would be between the kick panels under the stereo.

Ok, The car is US Spec, 1995 Eclipse N/T with the 420A Motor. Now I am confused, so whats behind the Stereo? And whats EDM stand for?
Thanks
Chris

EDM = European Domestic Market (i.e. the car was built to Euro. specs)

Just like JDM or USDM.

I have no idea what he was checking out behind the stereo. All that's back there is HVAC stuff, the turn signal module, shifter cables, SRS wiring, and the stereo harness.

The ECU and TCM are in the engine bay, on the driver's side, in front of the shock tower. The OBDII (diagnostics) port is under the dash on the driver's side... it should be secured there, but I've seen ones just dangling -- they kind of look like they're coming from under the stereo.

I was thinking 4g63, sorry for the confusion. I clicked from the front page without noticing the forum.

Had he had an EDM 2G N/T, he would've had a 4G63; but all USDM 2G N/Ts had the 420A.

I dont mean to thread jack but that is interesting. I have a new answer to all the guys that want to throw a 4g63 into their 2g NTs. = get a EDM 2g.... somehow.

no point, not worth it still...the engine bays are still completly different and would still require custom fabrication, again making it pointless.

And if one were to have a 2gedm shell, that was maybe given to them free and clear, and was already located in the states, then maybe I could see throwing a turbo 4g63 in there.

Thanks again Paul, and everyone else. Appreciate the help.
Chris

Yeah... what would the point of that be? WTF

For the price of a gray market EDM 2G N/T, you could just buy a GS-T or GSX.
