I have a 1996 Talon Esi, im going to rebuild the engine then turbo it. When I order the rebuild kit i was also thinkin about going to ebay and getting a new/used block, if I would should I put the 1g block in or a 2g block in. And if i would put a 1g block in do I need to mod. anything?

Thanks

you have a 420a which has all different motor mounts on the car so a 1g engine wouldnt work in it. IF you are really striving for a performance car I would suggest maybe selling your car and getting a GSX.

I know the car has an emotional attachment but you can send thousands of dollars and be as fast as a stock GST or you can go buy a GST/GSX. If the car means that much to you, I would suggest doing a rebuild on it and using it as a daily driver and then purchasing a turbo car or a project car. Because you are also going to run into reliability problems when you start modifying any car.

Not to be rude but I think the easy way to go would be to sell your car and buy a gst/x but if you want to have something thats different thats very unsuspecting to most guys out there keep the 420a. The design of the engine is actually a very good design but the internals were just not made to handle the kind of power that you can get out of it with a turbo. If you replace the internals then I think its got a better design that the 4g63. When you build it and put a turbo on it and tune it you will be suprised, completely different car. Most guys will suspect a 4g when you pop the hood to show them but instead you will have a 420a. Don't get me wrong I think the 4g is a great engine(seeing as I have one now) but I still like the 420a. In the end its up to you. Do you want to sell it and go the easy way to get a quick car then do it, but just know when you do make the 420a fast, it will be more rewarding because you have more in it.

.... I hope this was moved from the Newbie forum.

Building a spare block is an excellent idea. You will have less stress, as you are still able to drive the car while you build the engine. You cannot use a 1g engine, or probably most engines labeled 2g either. No 4g63 for you. Your block will have to be a 420a, from a 2gnt DSM, 95-99 Neon, or Avenger.
