there are always extreme conditions so you can never be certain until you open a motor up, although a spun rod BEARING is most likely not going to affect the head in any form at all.

I agree with this. I would see if he would take it apart for you before you buy it so you could check it out.

I spun 2 rod bearings on my 420a and had no damage to the head. It just gave me an excuses to put forged parts in it. Just make sure you clean everything out well and it will be fine.

will i want to hot tank the block before i start the rebuild and if so does anybody have a price for this ?

I doin't quite remember for sure, I know that when I was getting my motor built, before we even started looking at parts, I think he said I was into it about $200 just to have it all cleaned up and ready to go.

so probably between 100-300

you can get the block hot tanked, bored, and honed and ready to go for around 250 here where i live in arkansas.

i got my crank polished and race balanced for 125 and thats something you will definately want to do since you spun a rod bearing.

well went and got the motor tooks us 6 hrs but its here tear dwon commenced the day after return took us about an hour to get everything **accessories** torn off so were finally down to the bare block also we have located a garage to work in we found out 100% we had a spun rod the gap on a plug was smashed into the plug if you wanna see i can get pics as for everything else it looks good so far were hopefully gonna get a claw so we can get the crank whell off this weekend and also ive located a guy near me that gonna make me a custom short throw shifter for free **SCORE FOR ME** LOL he has one in his car and looks tits well i was lettin you guys get an update if you wanna see pics so far just ask :D we are well on are way :D

It cost me $160 to hot tank, bore, and hone my block plus polish my crank ($30 for the hot tank itself). It was an extra $150 to balance everything. You don't absolutely need to hot tank the block, but it will give you a nice clean piece to begin building. Plus, I wouldn't even think about painting the block unless it has been cleaned up first.

You probably (hopefully) won't have any damage to the head because of a spun rod bearing, but I would remove all of the cam caps (which you'll need to do anyway), and check for any scoring. If the cam caps or cradles are scored, your head is junk. If the cams are scored, they're junk too, but at least you can replace them or get some aftermarket sticks.
