Does anyone know how much it would cost to have rod bearing or main bearing replaced ?
On a 98 RS this is on a rebuilt motor .....had it almost 3 yrs probaly has 18k miles on it don't know how it could have happened never had any problems with the motor.

What is causing you to think the bearings are out. Thats crazy they should still be good unless they where low quality or you starved the motor of oil.

When i press the gas it make a clacking sound if i get higher into the rpm's it fades out. Starve the motor of oil nah the oil lamp never came on nor was the car overheating ...someboy said it could be a floating vavle ....who knows we removed the valve cover and turn the engine on didn't here the noise only made a mess

LOL, that will make a mess. What kind of bearings where used and who built the motor. They should take some responsibility if the bearings are going out this early.

sounds more like the lifters or exhaust leak to me. take off your oil pan and check if there is any metal shavings and check for movement on the rod end caps. If there is any movement the bearing is gone

Know i could believe that because my exhaust mani is missing two bolts for sure may be three the threading is stripped that is why i am missing the bolts but i could swear it sounds like it is coming from the head

I have one bolt missing on my manifold, and it's the nastiest loudest sound ever until it finally heats up and kinda seals. Sounds like anything from lifter ticking to loping cams in a big v8 LOL

Believe it or not, an exhaust leak is often times mistaken for rod rap. Have some one get a rag to block off the muffler. Start the car then block off the muffler by holding a rag to it (this will get hot so do this relatively quickly). While it is blocked off you should be able to hear the hissing coming from the exhaust leak (if you have one) you can even feel the air coming out (just don't touch the exhaust, LOL). If you have rod rap already this amount of time running will not matter. You might as well check exhaust first. Obviously, if no exhaust leak check for metal in your oil. If you bearing is gone there will be shiney metal shavings in your oil.

Let us know.

I would just change the oil and see what happens, if you find shavings you'll know what's up, if you don't, you can be relieved. I second exhaust leak though, I like Xmasta have the same problem and at higher RPMs the leak is almost un-noticable.
