beat a Celica?

Could an RS beat a Celica Gt? this guy i know has one, and we're both big car guys. I know he would want to race me when i get my car. Im wondering if i could beat him. Both cars are stock except on his he has pulleys. he's a pretty good driver too. Im an alright driver, gonna practice a lot though when i get my car. So can i beat him?

the celica will win. celica gt = 140 hp 140 torque, eclipse rs = 140 hp 130 torque. i raced my riends 1990 stock celica and lost. the new gts are all the same.

its one of those ehos the better driver things. Ive beaten a celica, but then again Ive lost to one too.

i've smoked every celica i've ever raced except for the new gt type s wow.. somethin different with those or he had crazy mods i think he woulda given a tsi or gsx a run for its money

its a newer one w/ groundeffects kit. definatly not a type s. so it would be close right?

Give your car a tune-up when u get it and let us know how it turns out. Sounds like it should be close. The non-gts models are pulling 1/4 miles 3/10 of a second faster than a n/a eclipse, so im guessing that the driving ability is going to be your answer.

Stuffy1256 If you are going to race a new Celica 7th generation with 180hp. I don't think you will win unless you have some mods on a 1996 RS Eclipse. The Celica GT-S with 180hp are pretty quick especially with a good driver and a 5-speed manual. If you are racing for respect you can still race and have fun, but if you are racing for money I wouldn't bet on that. Good luck.

He's not racing a GT-S, only a GT. Theres no way in hell he'd beat an S without mods, good driver or not.

the GTS's are all 6 speed manuals I do believe.

I've got a heavy ass automatic, intake & exhaust and I just barely beat a 5 speed Celica GT with exhaust. They're really not fast at all. If you've got any mods at all, I'd assume you can beat him.


The GTS comes in automatic & 6 speed, much faster. They have Toyota's version of "vtec." I've seen them run low 15's, high 14's....so they'll even give GST a run for it's money.

it would definitely be a close race between an eclipse rs and celica gt. if he has mods you better have them too.

me and my friend looked at a new gt-s at a car lot, 6 speed manual, popped the hood and it comes stock with a huge metal intake and k&n filter, not the stock accordian rubber airboxes..

has anyone else seen the new celicas with the grouneffects kit? It came stock from the factory as a option. It looks like a hybrid car to me. It has like a 99 combat wing on a 3kgt that doesnt really match (to me at least)

It's called the "Action Package," available as an option on the GT-S and GT. Ever seen the commercial....."Looks fast."

I like the action package on the new 7th generation Celicas. In my opinion it is the best version of that design. I like the wing it makes it more aggressive. It is like it or hate it style no doubt.

I did beat one of the new GT's a couple of months back and my car is almost stock(AEM CAI). The strange thing was that i keep it close to 4k, while he was chirping 2nd and reving as much as he could...and i just walked away...hmm..

, those commercials are funny as hell! I have the same problem with my car, old people yelling at me to slow down, i'm thinking it's gotta be the car looking like it's fast, cause it really isn't...

my sister has a gt-s and i do believe hers had an airbox...are u sure u werent looking at a used celica??
