electrical nightmare...experts ### help

ok....so my car has been going crazy for about a month and im trying to tackle everything one by one and i have the problem pretty narrowed down...first off my alarm fried...causing a relay to go...replaced it....the symptom was that engine wouldnt turn off when key was out...got that fixed by removing the alarm....now if i keep my radio fuse and dome light fuse in under the hood the radio stays on when i take the fuse out but dome lights dont work...if i remove the dome light fuse the radio will turn off the right way...but when the car is on (key to accessory or ON) and i hit the dome light button itll turn on??? but the radio will cut out till i turn it off...and its vice-versa if i have the dome fuse in / radio fuse out.....checked all wires and fuses only other thing i can think off is the dome relay.. is there one? i also occasionally get smoke from dash, burn up dash fuse lights and tail light fuse...someone help please im ready to sell it

I'm no expert by any means, but you might want to rip apart your whole center console, and check where all the wires go, making sure they are going to the right places, because whoever put your alarm in sounds like they might have screwed something up with it.

I hate wiring stuff man. Good luck

i think your car is haunted. the ghost of the eclipse man. i am with rand about tearing apart the consol. you might have a positive wire of the radio crossed with the dome light making them run off eachother.

Well, you start by finding burned wires that are associated with the problems you are having. Keep tracing and repairing until you have all the bugs worked out. You may find yourself completely pulling the dash and cutting looms apart to find wires that are fused together and because of the loom show no outward signs of problems.

There's no magic bullet for this one. Other than perseverence and patience.

did you installed a stereo or anything else before this happened?

Deffinitely check all you wires in the center console. If you recently installed a stereo check you illumination wire. A grounded illumination wire has some similar symptoms.

i did install a pioneer headunit and subs but i checked the wires 400 thousand times... i also checked the illumination wire which was indeed grouning itself out on the metal supports of the center counsel...i pulled the pin out of the wiring harness and checked all of my connections there all good...i pulled everythingbut the actual dash cover...which looks like its gunna not be too fun...cut all the plastic ties off the looms checked every wire i could find...im also going to replace every relay i can find...im still getting the same symptoms...if any one thinks of anything i might of missed or looked over let me know

Did you install the headunit yourself? Did you hardwire it in? Do you still have the stock radio?

i figured it out! my illumination wired was grounded and power antenna wire crossed onto it...thanks ndilo21 u saved my haunted car! it was crazy ### as soon as i pulled those pins and wires out of that harness everything worked...no more engine not shutting off problem, dome light problem, radio staying on or not working at all problem, i just assumed that i would look over the actual words on the wires and jumped to it being a more serious hidden electrical problem
