I just recently got a 91 eclipse 2.0L non-turbo FWD. It has 191k and smokes really bad been looking into buying a rebuilt or low mileage engine but costs are great for everything i've found. So I'm thinking my only option is rebuild it myself with the help of a few mechanics on their free-time that I know. Could anyone tell me everything that i should replace for the best possible results. Everything that should be changed. Also i have the idea of converting to a turbo but not for awhile so anything i would need for that, that could help on the rebuild now without hurting it being a non-turbo. Any suggestions and answers would be greatly appreciated.

Also when i got the car the transmission only had 1st,2nd and 3rd. I pulled a tranny out of a 93 eclipse non -turbo. It grinds going into 1st and throws out of reverse sometimes. A mechanic told me it's probably a synchronizer if anyone could help with that also. I still have about 21 days to return the tranny and i know where a good one is for $125 so I'm not sure which would be the best route.

With the engine that you have you should just wait until that engine goes. If you are wanting to upgrade to a turbo engine then start saving and look around. Thats why I think you should just go on the engine that you have now. With the tranny I would say that the synchronizers are going out since you always grind first gear. I would go back and buy that tranny for 125 even though that does sound pretty cheap? Check on that tranny before you buy it. Good Luck

Thanks, I plan to drive it until it blows. Do you know anywhere i could get a complete rebuild kit i found one at www.machv.com for $499.00 do you know anywhere cheaper and one that might include cams. Do you know if I could use bigger cams and it says they have a bore of .020 also should i get that my motor is old and alot of hard miles so it may need to be bored? Thanks for your help.
