I have a 94 eagle talon dl 1.8 ltr with bad rings.. I've already started to pull the engine. I use this car for my business (which is higher ins costs) Therefore I am going to stick with this DL (cheap insurance). I bought it earlier this month. Good body/interior. I have a teeshirt business & one of my cstmrs makes racing heads. He is going to shave & port the head on trade for tees. Another cstmr is going to bore out the block on trade (he suggested 40 over) but sd he needs the new pistons to make it perfect. What kind should I get and where...what about a bigger crankshaft & cam? What else can I do to make this car more faster? All sugestions appriciated (Im not going to sell it and buy a turbo, sorry) thanks

Get some custom Magnus Motorsports Ross pistons...I would say with a compression of either 10:5.1 or 11:0.1. To make any worthwhile power you are gonna also need a sick, SICK head rebuild...were talking LOTS of money on that one. Then once you are done with all of that your gonna be about 3 grand in the hole and maybe 35BHP faster on the stock fuel system. If you wanna keep the 1.8 for costs and you DONT wanna swap a 2.0 into it....then leave it alone and rebuild it a stock 1.8. It will save you mountains of money and thats what you wanted to do in the first place right? :dsm:

my cost on getting the head ported is very low (been my cstmr for awhile) b/c im doing it on trade. I figure since its out I might as well have it shaved. getting the blocked bored out is next to nothing. You are right that I dont want to spend $3,000 on it. Its more of a good way of relaxing after work. Do you know any websites w good deals for the other engine parts

Well look at it this way....say you get the boring done for next to nothing...and some minor bowl work on the head for next to nothing..

You would still need way higher compression pistons like I mentioned earlier...there goes 600 bucks. You are gonna need a custom cam made for the not-so-great-flowing-even-after-minor-portwork head....there's another 300. Then you are gonna need to custom fabricate exhaust parts because NOBODY makes anything for the 1.8......see where I'm going with this? To make any worth while power out of the 1.8...even if you are getting a deal on a couple things....is going to end up costing you MORE than it would to say..drop a 2.0 engine in. If you are looking for cheap reliable transportation...and it sounds like you are...then get a cheap stock rebuild done on the 1.8 and be done with it. If you are looking to spice things up a little...it is going to be a pain in the ass road of custom fabrication and lots of dough down the drain for a little bit of satisfaction with that 1.8 motor. Just my opinion... :dsm:

Top Line Rebuild Kit

This is a rebuild kit Mach V sells for 499.99...its got everything you need for a rebuild. Top Line isn't exactly performance oriented but for a stock 1.8 build they should be fine. Other than that just talk to a local shop...any shop worth their brass would easliy be able to put together a rebuild kit for you and probably with OEM parts. :dsm:

IM SOLD... That kit has everything i need... Thanks for pointing me in that direction... I think the .20 over will work good.. Thanks for your help.. everything in that one kit will make this a lot faster..After checking talons out, now I really want an AWD turbo to invest my time in instead. This kit will make the one I have now a perfect teeshirt delivery mobile (to pay for an AWD). Have the specialized work done on a AWD turbo engine.... THANKS AGAIN!
